      Alan, self-deception is rampant. You've added two "new" categories and I thank you for the additions. Unfortunately (not you) many individuals who cry about self-deception are the worst offenders, ironically enough.

   My view is they all fall under the broad category of 'ego-fear,' fear of a self-image knowing deep down that it is not the real us but just an imaginary concept and based on nothing but ego-made (i.e. thought-made) ideas.    It is a 'house built on sand' and it knows it.  Anything that takes away from its identify is feared.  Anything that adds to it, is welcomed, but only momentarily.
   
   It can be witnessed in the emotional reactions which spontaneously arise when what IT regards as 'I' is offended or frightened in any way.  It is common to all.  But worse, the majority of people think their mind-made, imaginatively created self-images ARE the real self.  And therein lies our biggest problem.

   Lack of empathy gets to me each time. I am an admirer of the popular website liveleak. Mostly avoid the little black picture posts but sometimes end up watching the gruesome anyway. Example- a video of three middle eastern children whose limbs were hanging on by a thread after a grenade fell on their home and a video of a Asian child being run over. Gruesome, I know. I observed many members and commentators show empathy and kind words to only one of these videos. On the other video, cruel words and statements like "That doesn't look painful enough" are shared and up-voted by others. Not just videos of children. This lack of empathy is portrayed throughout other videos and websites. On my own Facebook feed, on a daily basis, I am forced to say something due to someones vile opinion of ones pain. I just can't comprehend how humans can be alright with a certain group of people starving, dying, suffering...

      Elvisa, for now, just know that many realize how important it is to have empathy, particularly for those who cannot yet defend themselves...our children. Thank you for caring. I know it isn't always easy, but empathy is a beautiful trait.

      True. There is a lot of hurt "out there" and certainly within those who are the most empathetic. Let us not forget the meaning of "Empathy." (putting oneself in the other person's shoes.)

   Savvy, I would also say the first one, but they are all very unappealing traits and often go hand in hand. I can guarantee there are people who possess all these unfortunate traits. The trouble is many of these people are very influential and powerful, getting where they are because of these.

   I would add utter lack of self awareness. To do something that is rank hypocrisy and not realize it because they don't think about it. Or to say "you're incredibly biased because of X demographic", while not even realizing they have their own biases.

   Savvydating you have chosen some pretty aweful ones. The first three in my book are the same. The next is related to the Ego. Bad, yes, but no where near the first three. Is the sixth indifference? Feels like it. Indifference or complacency are not nice either.
   
   Yes, in callousness, there is no empathy, reasoning, rationale, they will hurt you on the spot, steal from the poor, and live in a very cold, narrow, inflexible shallow world. Make sure you stay far away if you sense these people. They have very little 'Light' are not touched by remorse, and can all be highly manipulative.
   
   Why are you interested in these things? I'm already feeling 'off' just writing about them. Walk like you are following the Light, and all will be well. Much Love.

      As a Jesuit said, One must have knowledge of both the holy and the profane. Children "walk in light" but that doesn't keep them safe from predators. My goal is to bring awareness of the reality of good and dark.  I recognize darkness when I see it.
