   What would be the bases of a Good Religion? What do you keep/borrow and what do you get rid of?
   
   I'm starting to feel that the religions we currently have just don't work. We have to carve away more and more of the bad stuff or add new interpretations to make up for it. I haven't given up on it completely though and I wonder what would be a good starting point for a new religion.
   
   Please nothing vague like "do unto others".

   Right to life for others
   Right to self defense when others physically assault you, otherwise you don't really have a right to life
   Right to speech, belief, and association - no killing those who don't agree with you whether it is political or religious or personal
   Right to own what you produce
   Mandate to charity but not via government collection and redistribution

      I like all of that but the last bit is really interesting. To uses taxes as a comparison, people don't like being put on the hook for something. If you are told what and how much you start to become to critical of the process.  Then no one wins.

   First of all, we should have no religion based upon fairy tales, because humans now have massive volumes of information to explain things that were "explained" by magic gods in the sky before.
   We need a religion based upon evidence, that can be objectively observed, even by skeptics, so as to stop dumbing down society.
   All holy books need to be relegated to the genre of Fiction, and never taught to impressionable children as truth, ever again.
   People would be better of if they looked to the universe for answers, instead of ignorant ancient holy books that teach that the afterlife consist of an eternity in a make believe heaven. Our energy eternally exists as part of the universe, in different forms.
   And morals....well religions have attached themselves to morals for a long time, but they really are late to the table, as man had morals before he invented religions.

      I like what you are saying but at the time of creation for most of the old world religions the fairy tales were presumed facts. So maybe what a new religion needs is constant revision of information.
