Why do most who profess to be Christian give to satan more power and authority than scripture does?

1 John 3:8 it is said, "To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil."

**Jesus defeated him.   He only has power to tempt, he cannot make anyone do anything.** What you do when tempted is up to you.**
James 1:13-15  13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Charlie I keep my eye open for the devil. I hear he lurks everywhere. But as a sinner I can truthfully say it has never been the devil that made me sin. It was me, fair and square. A failing here and a failing there and a lack of faith here and there. Bonehead ideas creep into my mind.
I just cannot lay my lacking at the foot of the devil. And I cannot abide by my family claiming the devil made me do it.
We are children of God. "WE" fail. And we also do great works.
I will keep an vigilante eye but I do not reckon I will see the devil.

and where do the bonehead ideas (tempations ) come from?
        Same old eric.
Read again and look at the words.  I said the devil can't make anyone do anything, that what you do with the temptation is up to you.    what are you really trying to say?

Charlie, if it ain't in your predilection then it is wrong. Good for you. Life has more than what you offer. I suggest you embrace it.

Eric, you are the first and the most sincere " profess to be ""Christian"", " - satisfying widely ranged question posted to millions for answer, who might never come to this forum...(You know what I mean.) Thanks.

Eric: What they're trying to say (and it applies to ALL of us), 1 shouldn't remain "complacent" in their belief!  If a Follower of Christ, it is our position to "Study" when WORD is given to "see if it is so" or 1 won't GROW (II Cor 3:18)!

Why are you taking us back to mid first century AD? James was 'dealing' with a particular crisis on a particular 'group' , explaining them what he knew about existing 'problem' and the readers?listeners didn't have any idea what is recorded in the gospels regarding Jesus teaching. ( Presently this generation (including us) do have written Christ's- the Anointed One teaching to follow...
" Why do most.... " well if "they" have a "James"- a caretaker of their "christian" behavior, let him ask  every individual and fix  the problem "why are you  giving to satan more power and authority..."

True!  Written perhaps between 48-49 A.D. James is probably the first Books of the New Testament BEFORE "Grace and Truth!"  No more "works" least any man should boast" (Eph 2:9)NOW the Holy Spirit "works" changing us "fm glory to glory"(2 Cor 3:18)

Because "the flesh is weak" (Mark 14:38) and is why we have to "Be strong in the LORD and in His Mighty Power" (Ephesians 6:10)!

Really, I think you answered your own question in Verse 14 of James Chapter 1!  "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by HIS OWN DESIRES and enticed!"

Again, this is a "Spiritual" journey in which the "spiritual warfare" continues daily!  Ephesians 6:10-17 (v10) "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (v11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (v13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (v14) Stand therefore, having your lions girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (v15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (v16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is THE WORD OF GOD!"

And is why I continue to tell ALL to "STUDY" (II Timothy 2:15) so we can "Die Daily" (I Corinthians 15:31) to the "desires of the flesh!"

Eric: "The Communion" was "revealed" to me by Holy Spirit based on Heb Chapter 7, 8, 9 & 10! "Sacrifice" is what the world is doing which is OC & against WORD under NC(Heb 7:27)! HE is the Bread;HE is the drink! We COMMUNE w/HIM via "STUDYING
