What is THE ONE reason why many Black Americans AREN'T highly successful educationally &
socioeconomically? Is IT endemic racism, negative environments, parents advocating just getting by/surviving, a poverty mentality, &/or anti-intellectualism?
I think it is all race related but compounded by the complex nature of social perception. With all the concerns you mentioned, consider this: If I ran up to Samuel L. Jackson in an airport and said " OMG, it's Morgan Freeman", what would you think? What would Sam L. think in this situation? But more importantly, what is the affect of having to consider the nature of my error, or to validate or moderate your own perceptions regarding my error. What affect does this conflict of perception have on the sense of self?
These conflicts or challenges to perception are relentless and restrict or interfere with, what would normally be, simple subjective cognition, and this problem is far more pronounced in children. This resistance to subjective cognitive assimilation is common in rural white communities as well, but for very different reasons.
Really good teachers can work through these challenges, but really good teachers are far to rare to serve as a viable solution. I think we have to start from scratch, and this must begin with relocating entire oppressed communities to new locations. Places were they can maintain their culture and sense of racial identity but have access to all the things the rest of us take for granted: Good paying jobs, Houses(not Housing), quality education, jet skis, deer hunting, bike trails, room to go a bit wild and the like.
The illegitimacy rate that has gone from 1/4 to 3/4 in the past 50 years. The child of an unwed mother is three to four times more likely to be held back a grade, drop out of school, become mentally ill and dependent on welfare REGARDLESS of race or mother's income.
The lack of a married father to provide stability, discipline and guidance makes the odds much worse a child will fail in life. The problem for blacks is that the broken family is their norm.
In the average Black American community, there is endemic negativity in consciousness, mentality, mindset, outlook, philosophy, psychology, purview, & outlook. Many Black Americans have a passive philosophy towards life. They even have a dependency on varying levels. Racism only plays a very minute part in the majority of Black Americans not being successful in American society.
Many Black American parents don't take education seriously. They seldom appear at their children's PTA meetings. They believe that it is the teacher's job to help THEIR children w/schoolwork, not them. They refuse to be proactive regarding their children's education as opposed to other racial/ethnic groups who are very proactive regarding their children's education. They don't stress to their children a high level of success & achievement. They furthermore emphasize being social over being intellectual. This behavior is evident even among middle class Black Americans as I have witnessed such behavior first hand. Black American children who are more intellectual are told to "get with it", "hand out", & "be more like others". Have you noticed that the most popular Black American children aren't that smart while the smart Black American children are ostracized, even demonized?
Many Black Americans seem to be happy working for others instead of working for themselves. That is the dependency nature. They want others to take care of them & not assume any responsibility. In addition to working for others, they seem to be concentrated in lower to middle level positions-this goes even for educated Black Americans. I know one Black American male who refused promotions because he indicated that it would be too much of a hassle. Many Black Americans, including relatives, indicated that it is just TOO MUCH HEADACHE to assume responsible positions. So they remain in lower level positions where they have the least autonomy & ownership.
Many Black American parents advise their children not to reach "TOO HIGH" but to settle for middling. They seem to be afraid of success or that success isn't for them but for someone else. They appear to be comfortable with poverty or middling. They may even feel that they aren't deserving of socioeconomic success & the good things it brings. So they settle & teach their children to settle instead of aiming for the highest.

Disclaimer: I am an educated middle class Black woman. There are social problems among Black Americans. Yes, there is racism; however, please do not use this as an excuse not to become educated and achieve your dreams. Yes, there are many Blacks who use the issue of racism...

I challenge ALL liberals to click on the link below and listen to what Candace Owens has to say about George Floyd. I think she is spot on.“In a controversial 17-minute long video shared on Twitter on June 3, Owens said that she does not "support George Floyd and the media's depiction of...

The article came from an opinion piece in the New York Times, I would have liked to provide a simpler link. But, it was not possible. I think that this article below written by Mr. Janelle Bouie is both spot on and timeless, and explains my attitude in regard to this issue and countless others. The...

Disclaimer: I am a Black woman. Now that is out of the way, here's the question at hand. Why dosome Black Americans elect to blame racism for their dire educational, environmental, & economic predicament instead of assessing that it is their passivity & lack of...

In addition to the pandemic there is another global issue at hand, racial injustice. As we have seen over the past few weeks, countless innocent Black Americans have been killed by the hands of police or armed white people. However, there is much more to this story that meets the eye. Black...
