If You Had a Fortune to Donate, What Causes or Organizations Would You Support?
I think about this every time I buy a lottery ticket...
The Humane Society
A Place to Bark (my friend's animal rescue)
PBS
North Texas Food Bank
Public Art Fund
Fort Worth Modern Museum
Kimbell Museum
Arts scholarship funds and chairs at all the schools I attended
Should I keep going?
I'm heavy on arts organizations, because they're usually the first ones to lose funding any time we have a Republican administration. I've worked for an endless number of not for profit arts organizations, and they are almost always one bad decision, or one natural disaster, away from closing their doors. It sucks to work like that, so I'd apply my funds to fixing that for as many people as possible.
Hey Lisa, thanks for your sincere comment. I didn't know art organisations lose their funding when Republican administration is in power. I would like to donate for:
1) Eradicating hunger and poverty
2) Saving street animals
3) Providing clean water
If I won a great big lottery right now, I think I would buy a helicopter to ferry supplies to the Puerto Rican hurricane victims who are not receiving aid right now. (Why is the government not sending in these supplies by helicopter to areas that are unreachable?)
My heart really lies with the animals so I would donate to all the local animal shelters in the county.
Veterans organizations and their projects.
Public arts (I agree with Lisa) that these are always the first to go in federal budget cuts)
Arkansas Children's Hospital (iin addition to children, it specializes in burn victims and adult burn patients are sent there) and maybe St. Jude's Hospital that helps ill children without charging them.
Note: Why not Habitat for Humanity? because while it sounds like a great idea, it helps only one person or family at a time, and there are many government handout organizations that already help with welfare-type housing.

Is this true? Of course, you have to consider the source - a far right network, MSNBC. (insert sarcasm here)http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/ … _info.html

I was disturbed by an article I had recently read. The main theme emphasizing similarities between the current administration and the period during the 1920's after WWI and before the deluge of Hitler's ascendency in Germany. Yes, the article is from Salon but its content is still food for thought....
