   Speaking for myself, I do it by accepting that my idea of success is not based on money or fame, but on growth and progress.
   
   I'm successful if I paint better today than I did yesterday.
   
   I'm successful if I teach someone about a technique, or a product, or a way of approaching their work that makes them happier.
   
   I'm successful if my bills are all paid, and there's kibble in the dog food bowl.
   
   Accepting that my idea of success could never include a massive pile of money, a huge house (which I honestly don't want to clean), a new car every other year, and a bunch of things made me a much happier artist.
   
   Do some artists have all those things? Sure. But with that kind of success comes a pile of trade-offs. Having seen them up close, by assisting other artists, made it easy for me to understand that the life that comes with them isn't for me.

      I understand and agree with your point about success but, sometimes even your definition of success is extremely far out of reach. Pursuing art as a career requires you to give every piece of yourself unlike most careers.
