Reminds me of Al Gore and his push to have us reduce our carbon footprint while jetting to his speaking engagements in a private jet.

Retired politicians. Why common people think they understand our world is difficult to fathom.

Why with you folks are there always differing standards? so Barack Obama has financial resources, did not Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, JFK or George Bush? It just seems to me when ever black people do the things other former presidents do, they now become hypocrites. I suppose a man with a Doctorate in Law having a wife with a Masters Degree should just return to the ghetto? They are both successful in their own right, even if Mr. Obama never became President of the United States. I keep getting the impression and my wife concurs that white folks resent black people having ANYTHING at all. It is an ugly perspective, but it seems one that many of you work hard to earn.

???  Where did race come into this thread?  No one has mentioned race...except right here, when you declare it all to be racist?

What do you think is being implied here,Wilderness? The complaint about Obama has racist undertones, you can't see that? Is the fact that Obama is wealthy make him a hypocrite? I don't see that complaint levied against ex-presidents in general....

It seems All you ever get out of any conversation is your own racism Credence  ?   I am calling out Obama for lecturing the African people about how wealthy  people don't need multiple mansions and all that comes with it AND Then returns to the USA and does the exact same thing he's lecturing about in his speeches .

What has that to do with racism ? Except to you !

I clearly understand what Ahorseback is stating.  He is indicating that Obama is a HYPOCRITE for lecturing wealthy Africans about their lifestyle while he does the same.  Obama is saying do AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO.  Yes, Obama is being hypocritical.  He criticizes the wealthy lifestyle while he is doing the same thing as other wealthy people.  RACE has nothing to do w/it, Credence2.  Obama & Michelle are the BIGGEST hypocrites.  I have to concur w/Ahorseback & Wilderness on this one, Credence2.

Can you be specific as to what part of the Obama speech you are referring to? You found something and I have the text of his speech with was long. What specific passage, I did not see anything about multiple mansions and such....

              was this it?

And Madiba understood this. This is not new. He warned us about this. He said: “Where globalization means, as it so often does, that the rich and the powerful now have new means to further enrich and empower themselves at the cost of the poorer and the weaker, [then] we have a responsibility to protest in the name of universal freedom.”

Yeah, I agree with that, Obama did not exclude himself from being rich and powerful, but only rightwingers believe that  exploiting poorer and weaker is the basis of their wealth

I see a rich man complaining about other people being rich.  Pretty sure that's what it's about and has nothing to do with race.

"I should add, by the way, right now I’m actually surprised by how much money I got, and let me tell you something: I don’t have half as much as most of these folks or a tenth or a hundredth. There’s only so much you can eat. There’s only so big a house you can have. There’s only so many nice trips you can take. I mean, it’s enough. You don’t have to take a vow of poverty just to say, “Well, let me help out and let a few of the other folks – let me look at that child out there who doesn’t have enough to eat or needs some school fees, let me help him out. I’ll pay a little more in taxes. It’s okay. I can afford it.” I mean, it shows a poverty of ambition to just want to take more and more and more, instead of saying, “Wow, I’ve got so much. Who can I help? How can I give more and more and more?” That’s ambition. That’s impact. That’s influence. What an amazing gift to be able to help people, not just yourself. Where was I? I ad-libbed. You get the point.

It involves promoting an inclusive capitalism both within nations and between nations. And as we pursue, for example, the Sustainable Development Goals, we have to get past the charity mindset. We’ve got to bring more resources to the forgotten pockets of the world through investment and entrepreneurship, because there is talent everywhere in the world if given an opportunity."

Of course that's what you see. roll

What I always loved about Obama is he presents himself as a man who happens to be black. Not a black human being who happens to be a man. I doubt he would scream racist at that dialogue. I don't even know how you jumped so many hurdles to get there.

I also didn't see anything racist in the point of the OP, or the context of the quoted speech.

And I like that thought about a man who happens to be black, vs. a black man who became president.

If you mean what I quoted, it was in response to

"a rich man complaining about other people being rich."

He clearly was not complaining about people being rich. But about "the rich" that "want to take more and more and more" "at the cost of the poorer and the weaker..."

Thanks for taking the marbles out of my mouth. The attack was based on the OP saying Obama was a hypocrite, why so?

When one takes the time to actually read what he said...

How many feel good speeches did all the ex-presidents give over all these years, and not one of them touched on the kinds of themes Obama speaks of today?

So we're any of them subject to criticism for being part of the lecture circuit?

It's the same sh@@, different day, eh Horse. You don't like Obama and will find excuses to criticize him engaging in activities that others would see as innocent.

You got that resentment bug regarding any form of positive progressive. I am going out on a limb here, I am going to say that you hate the man because he is black. Why not? We ALL voted for him because he was black?

Anyway that thinking is going to get you no where. You and people like you will be subject to our greater resolve to relegate the rightwinger, the stench of his ideas and values back to rubbish bin.

Just more Obama bashing. Yes? I intend to carve up your hero, Trump, but at least it will be based on a little fairness and over something substantive

I took the time to read the speech and while a bit wordy, I considered it spot on. Is Obama a hypocrite for exposing the danger of those with economic prowess, dominating the political sphere as well and displacing democracy and its institutions? For the Right,  democracy has always been a messy and irritating inconvenience. But we all know that, do we not?

Truer words were never spoken and would make the rightwinger shudder in fear and resentment at their very utterance,  and I expect that when I see that the speech is having the proper effect. The barb against the rise of reactionary politics was also a barb at Trump and his scurvy crew without mentioning him by name. Terrific!!!!

So, if there is any sort of hypocrisy in regards to Obama's address, who wants to show it to me?

The left loves to condemn the right when it comes to acquired wealth , The left loves to use this great American phenomena to put down those like Trump politically for the very same reasons that they defend and glorify the Obama's wealth .

Now come the Obamas lectures about the negatives of wealth ?

No , no hypocrisy here !

Horse, did you read the speech, even glanced at it? Obama was talking about abuse of wealth and power toward those not having it, not just its mere possession. That, for me, is the most dangerous aspect of society that threatens democracy.

But being a righty, I have to print it in Braille and shove it up your bum before you understand the message since you obviously cant see it with your own two eyes.....

The difference is that Trump has proven himself to be of a coarse sort, and no amount of money can polish that image.

I also agree with your response relative to the "rich complaining" comment.
