Trump's daily briefings about COVID-19

Trump in his daily COVID-19 briefings reminds me of a used car salesman who knows nothing about the car he is selling, but he is going to try to convince you that it is a great car by exaggerating what he thinks he knows.  He uses words and phrases repeatedly including: “incredible, fantastic, disaster, and like you never seen before” to try to make his points.

And then the experts’ step in to smooth over and add a sense of reality to what he has said. They do it in a professional manner that Trump is not capable of doing.  I don’t know some of you may be happy with his crudeness as president, but it rubs me the wrong way.

After the briefing is over, he takes questions from the press. This puts Trump in combat mode, where he tries to protect his image at any cost including attacking questioners and never accepting that he has done anything wrong and never will.

I want to have a president I can trust and one that acts presidential without all the bluster and exaggeration.  I want one who will appoint people to his staff and administration that are not all yes men and appreciates diversity of thought and ideas. I want one who will accept that the buck stops with him and not shift the blame to others; and admit when he is wrong and learns from his mistakes.

If Trump doesn’t think that you are agreeing with him, you are gone and then he will appoint incompetent people who will agree with him. Group think in the face of this virus can be very dangerous. We need novel creative thinkers who can innovate and implement their ideas.

    This is my two cents.

It boggles my mind at a time like this, some are still spewing their anti-
      Trump rhetoric.
What do you expect him to do?
He is doing a good job amassing medical experts and private sectors to tackle this problem. More than any previous president in this situation.
He was also the one that issue the key order to stop travel from China on Jan. 31, 2020. That is the reason we are still early in the spread of virus. It you look at Italy, who did not stop the travel, they are in much worse shape now. So in your criticism of Trump, some are valid, any reasonable person would also give him the credit to do the courageous thing even at the time it was thought of xenophobia by the likes of CNN.

Jack:  Watching Trump in these daily briefings is like watching amateur hour.  He is way out of his league. He has to have  the professionals explain and clarify what he is saying.  His garbled speech patterns are not working like they did with his rallies and attacking his opponents.

If you compare governors  Coumo and Newsome and their presentations with Trump, he appears lost. After watching him this morning, I actually feel sorry for him.  All he is is a master of ceremonies...and a poor one at that.

There are only two people I trust in his briefings and that is Donna Brix and Andrew Fauci.  Everybody else up there is just kissing Trump's a**.  He has an acting Homeland Security guy and Health and Human Service guy.  He fired the good ones because they didn't agree with him.

It's interesting that the GOP was against Bernie and Democratic Socialism, but now they want to give everybody $1,200.  And they were against big government, but now Mike Pence says, "We are working with the whole of the government to combat this virus."

Trump could hide his incompetence behind his rallies and his attacks of his opponents, but now there is no place to hide his incompetence. It's open Kimono time.

This calendar shows the progression of how Trump bulls*t the people.

Scott, that is your opinion. Many American in a time of crisis look to our President for answers. Trump is delivering on this issue big time. The fact that you hate this man and all he stands for is coloring your perception.
That is fine, but it is just your opinion. To many of us on the right, Cuomo is not a good governor. There you have it, opposing views of the same set of circumstance.
          It proves nothing.

Jack:  I'm Mike, not Scott.  And it is not my opinion.  Did you even look at the You Tube calendar?  That is Trump in those videos, pure and unadulterated.  How can you deny that?

I don't live in New York and I'm not on the right.  But I do live in California and as far as I'm concerned, Newsome and Cuomo  are head and shoulders above Trump when it comes to real leadership.

You have talked about Obama leading from behind, well now you have Trump playing catch-up ball.  I would hate to see him and Pence try to fix this crisis on their own. Thank God Dr's. Fauci and Birx are there.  Trump should either lead or follow or get the hell out of the way and let the professionals do their jobs.

Trump is saying he inherited a broken health care system and now he fixed it. If he knew it was broken for three years, why didn't he fix it?  And now he claims he has fixed it in three weeks.  What did he do to fix it?

I hate to burst your bubble Jack, but Trump has no where to hide his incompetence when it comes to a real crisis. He does what he does best and that is lying, attacking his opponents, shifting blame of his mistakes to others, exaggerating the truth, and self aggrandizing.  If you can't see that for what he is, then you my friend have a real perception problem.  At this point, I don't hate him.  I feel sorry for him.

The bottom line:  I don't trust him as my president as far as I could throw his fat a**

I do believe Jack is venting because of the stock market losses, Mike. He's been touting Trump's great intelligence as far as the economy is concerned, but now Trump's blaming Obama for the problems he now owns. Predictable much?

I am not venting. I have no concern over the down market. It will come back in due time. I was smart enough to follow my own advice to keep a portion of my investment in cash. I will ride out this storm fine. It is the rest of the people who are selling now that is unfortunate. These people have no knowledge about investing and now panic and sell at the worst time.
Let me just remind people that during the last recession, when the market lost 40% of it's value, it came back within 2 years and then went even higher.
The people who sold lost big. You know who made money...Goldman Sachs. They were buying when others were selling.

              Mike,
sorry about the name mixup. I was debating Scott at another hub and just got confused.  Unfortunately, we only have one President at a given time. If you don't trust Trump, what is the alternative?
You can criticize him all day long but how will that help?

Trump is doing his best in a black swan event.
Do you think if anyone else was president, even Obama, would things be better or worse?
Remember, the H1N1 virus in 2009 and 2010.

As a pro-decency person myself, I find it impossible to trust someone who would, were he not impotent in these matters, remove from the people their ability to defend their lives, property, and values from tyrants and common criminals.

Mostly though, it's the low intelligence quotient the anti gunners have which offends me.

Wesman:  Nice try to deflect the issue of the virus to guns.  But you know what?  It didn't work.  You don't trust me about guns and I don't trust Trump as your president about the virus crisis.

But your logic is, if you don't trust me about guns, then you don't trust me about anything...not too swift there pal.  If the truth is out there and you don't use, you are the one who suffers. Take the malaria pill and see what happens.

You're making a serious mistake when you assume I care at all what you think about things.

A democrat is the type of person who's more concerned about calling one a racist than protecting the people from a pandemic - and that's you.

Anti second amendment people remind me of used car salesmen who know nothing about the idea they're selling.

Wilderness has proved you and your anti second amendment ideas so laughably wrong, every single last time you've presented them, I'm amazed you even show up around here.

Donald Trump has been the single greatest political event of my lifetime. Finally a man in the white house, not a rapist like Bill Clinton, a bought and paid for idiot like W. Bush, or a prissy little dainty parody of a man like Obama.

Also, I used to be a used car salesman, and I bet you couldn't pull that job and make a living were it the only thing you had to do.

The greatest friend I made selling used cars was a Cuban who Carter had traded prisoners for from Castro. He came over as a kid. He told me he killed his first communist when he was just 15. Crawled into his window at night and cut his throat.

Was a high level apparatchik he killed-  the man had raped whatever girl in town he wanted.

Perhaps you're intimidated by the manliness of used car salesmen and the greatest POTUS of my lifetime.

Wesman:  My first thought was to not even dignify your reply to my post, because it was so far out in left field. I'm not intimidated by Trump, but I am sadden by him being our president when at this moment in time we need a real leader, not a phony used car salesman.

But on second thought, here is some reading for you and others who think that Trump has great leadership skills. The first article is about how Trump ignored the warning from the intelligence community in January about the virus.

The second article is about how Trump thinks that a drug that is used for malaria and arthritis is going to cure the virus; even though the experts told him it hasn't been approved and is not available for the virus without months of clinical testing. Trump says, "He has a hunch it will work and he is a big fan of the drug and since it used for malaria, you can use it on the virus right away."

Trump also attacked the media again today when they are only real information source we can trust since Trump lies about the virus.

He's pissed off because they're reporting real stats and not downplaying the virus threat as he's been doing too long. Glad he only has a few months left in the WH. The stench will remain long after he's gone though...

I find it difficult to listen to a man who speaks with the vocabulary of a 10-year-old, uses superlatives in every sentence, speaks off-script (making misstatements), and doesn't acknowledge when he might have erred and misspoken.

He has lied so many times that it's like the little boy who cried wolf. When can we rely on what he says? Thank God there are people in the CDC and other agencies (not Cabinet members) who can provide reliable information based on data and not on "hunches."

Last I checked the First Amendment has some limitations (obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, and commercial speech such as advertising).  I'm not anti-First Amendment because I agree that those limitations make sense in the public interest.  Is it so hard to fathom that some limitations to the Second Amendment could also be in the public interest?

And did Wesman really claim that a man with over twenty claims of sexual impropriety doesn't fit into the same boat as Clinton?  Last I remember, no 14-year old filed a civil suit alleging a rape against Clinton.  Nor did Clinton endorse a politician with a history of inappropriate actions towards underage girls.  Not sure I would have tried to take the moral high ground on that topic if I was him.
