Danny Glover explains why the earthquake happened in Haiti

    Actor Danny Glover says the earthquake in Haiti is a result of global warming. Glover told GRITtv that it could have happened to any of the Caribbean island nations: "They are all in peril because of global warming."

    Then, he lamented the failure of the climate summit in Copenhagen. As a result of that failure, he says, "this is what
    happened."

    At least Danny's comment had some vague resemblance to science. Climate is known to be a factor in the frequency of earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.

    Whether it was a factor in THIS earthquake... who knows? But it is interesting that El Nino is associated with increased frequency of earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean, and El Nino is the cause of the weird weather we've been having in much of the Northern Hemisphere this winter. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility to suggest that El Nino might affect earthquakes in the Atlantic as well.
