Krishnam Vande Jagatguru
This means that Lord krishna is the ultimate teacher friend philosopher and guide. If one follows the teachings as propounded by krishna in 'Geeta' called Epic Poem one can see that there is no need for any other philosophy.Philosophy is said to be something abstract subject but Geetais the most practical of all the philosophies,a paradoxical statement but then what is the use of philosophy if it cannot explain the truths of life.Geeta is one such scripture that can lead you from darkness to light.
Do you suggest a return to the caste system? I would welcome a hub about this.
Bhagwath Gita is a treasure trove of knowledge but it does not advocate caste system. You would be amazed at the erudition and flawless logic in the Gita.
There are a number of good English translations.
Caste system is a later day addition and perpetrated by Manu, a king of yore. Caste system is the bane of Indian society, I might add
It's amazing there is actually someone here who knows the Bhagavadgíta.
But I must object,
"The works of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas and Sudras are different in harmony with the three powers of their born nature."
-- The Bhagavad Gita, trans J. Mascaró (New York, 1962)
Well, Haunty, I take back my remarks but I merely reflected the popular belief.
But I do hope you agree with me that the caste system is the pits!
Caste system will be there in any society, whether stated explicitly as in India or else. The rich and powerful = upper caste. The poor and meek = Lower caste. There will always be a grading in between the extremes here.
Indian society was not originally caste based, but work based. Castes and caste discrimination came much later as a sociological evolution.
Bhagwad Gita is the quintessence of Indian spiritual knowledge. It transcends the limits of Hinduism. That's why it has a global appeal. Only true spiritual seekers not confined to rigid and archaic religious boundaries can ever appreciate the profound spiritual knowledge that Gita contains.

LOL The World must have come to an end - I find myself in agreement with Haunty
Personally, having lived a very chaotic life due to very strange circumstances that have surrounded me, I find that spirituality is always from within. It becomes the counter-balance to outside inertia. It's the only way to influence anything outside ourselves with goodness--to start within.
I don't have much experience with Bhagwad Gita or Tao Te Ching, but I do understand the philosophical premise.
What are your thoughts about Kaballa? What similarities might there be?
Hi Dan,
The similarities are many and varied. I'm not sure what you're asking about, but I did my homework and so here is a quotation form the Qabalah:
"When a person goes to his bed, his consciousness abandons him and goes up. But if every soul leaves the sleeper, not all rise to behold the countenance of the King... The soul passes through numerous regions jumping from place to place. In its journey, it paces itself in contact with impure powers that constantly surround the sacred regions. If the soul is contaminated by impurities, it mixes with them and remains with them during the entire night. Other souls ascend to the higher regions, and even beyond them to contemplate the glory of the King and visit his palaces... A man whose soul reaches this supreme region every night can be assured that he will participate in the future life."
