I'm curious where you all go to get photos. I used istockphoto.com sometimes and that can get pricey if there's nothing suitable in the half-price bin.

For some subjects, I could use my own. For others, it's best to get stock.

What good ideas do you have?

I use istockphoto, too. Search the forums, there are several threads on this with good alternatives...

Embitca suggested flickr.com and I've been having some success with that.  You need to do an Advanced Search and click the Creative Commons box to be sure you get photos that are free to use.

I use StockXchange which is really popular and the photos are free to use.

There's a bunch of sites on my free stock photo hub that you can try.

All Photostocks have a "Free Photos" section where you can find photos that people donate them :

    Dreamstime.com , Fotolia.com , iStockPhoto , Shutterstock , Bigstockphoto.com, 123RF.com , Deviantart.com . crestock.com , photosearch.com , pbase.com hope they are enough yikes) All the best for all hubbers! big_smile

Lately, I've been trying to write hubs about topics that I have pictures for. Otherwise, I like flickr. But, I think I'll try some of the links you guys have suggested next time I'm in need of a picture.

Wow, I learned a lot. Thank you.

I did not know that Flickr had an area where you could check if you were allowed to use the photo. Great deal!

I will visit your photo hubs and also check out some of the other links.

The idea about searching for "free photos" on photo sites -- amazing.

    I appreciate your help.

I found another today to add to the list: http://www.freedigitalphotos.net

Be sure to read their agreement. You have to include a link to their site. I don't mind doing that but someone might.

Yeah I could list a whole bunch of those on my stock photo hub but I chose not to because i don't enjoy linking to sites just because I use their photo...thats not free.

So I only included sites where you can just grab the photo and they are truly free.

One of the sites claims that they own the copyright but allows you to use the photo. The terms say that you have to use the photo with the copyright info or you can crop it out and put a link back. The copyright info though is on the photo but its so small you cant even really see it.

PS sorry for the double posting above. didn't really notice it until I came back to this thread and there's no way to delete it.

I recommend the free photos from Dreamstime.com but have to admit that sometimes, I end up paying for those that I like.  Since the topics that I write on tend to center around the same theme, the photos that I buy can be used in multiple ways or sites. Another site with free photos to check out on is Webshots.com .

Some Photos will need to be purchased , that in case of not being in the Free Section , where people donate them , as I`ve said there are on many sites , but read the agreement first. I do not mind about Photos I am a photographer myself and have account on about 8 Photo Stocks where I pretty get credited so , a few bucks for some photos isn`t much big_smile The best photos in my opinion are on Fotolia.com , Dreamstime and Shutter Stock , what tells me that ? First I know what photography means big_smile and the approval rate for uploads is very low so they want only the best , over 3 million photos to find on the sites above ! big_smile
