18 Cool PlayStation One Games (edit)

Updated on January 5, 2013

The original PlayStation is surely one of the most successful consoles of all times. The games were extremely entertaining and addictive, making people spend days and nights in fanatical playing. Some kiddies might complain about the graphics, but note that this is the first successful 3D console and it was made a long time ago. Here are some of my favorite titles which I hope to see remade someday in the future…

Metal Gear Solid

One of the first espionage games in which you sneak past the enemies, rather than engaging them in battle like Rambo. The extremely well written storyline, innovative gameplay and excellent graphics for the time makes it my favorite title.

Crash Bandicoot 2

Very entertaining jump and run game. Your goal is to collect crystals by making all kinds of heroic jumps moving past grotesque looking enemies.

Tomb Raider III

This is an excellent adventure game. Explore different places around the world searching for artifacts while looking at Lara`s ass in different outfits. You will visit Indian temples with living statues, fight dinosaurs in lost South Pacific Islands and even explore alien UFO in Area 51.

Resident Evil 2

This is very addictive survival horror game. You are stuck into Raccoon City the residents of which have been infected by a virus turning them into zombies. Your mission is to escape from them using extremely limited firearms. The city have built in various puzzles which contributes to the specific atmosphere of the game.

Fighting Force

The best Beat`em`up game on PS1. This is something like a 3D version of Final Fight. The gameplay is epic – you beat enemies, smash the environment, take some broken parts from the ground and beat enemies with them again. The soundtrack also kicks ass.

Syphon Filter 2

Very good action game with well written storyline and improved sneaking elements compared to Metal Gear. It has ace multiplayer also. Soundtrack kicks ass.

Medievil 2

This game kicks ass. You play as a skeleton-zombie-like creature which purpose is to kill an evil magician who has revived all kinds of evil zombies (including you). You are definitely going to LYAO.

Tekken 3

This is the first “civilized” version of the Tekken series in my opinion. Very well made game with various fighting styles and combos, with hidden characters and game modes.

Oddworld Abe`s Oddysee

This is very addictive 2D game. You are a mudokon trying to free his fellow slaves from the evil sligs. You can complete the entire game without saving a single one, however the ending isn`t very nice for you :))) and you have to save at least 50. It is possible to save them all, however you have to make some pretty insane heroic acrobatics in order to achieve that.

Red Alert Retaliation

Very difficult but addictive RTS game. You play in scenario in which Hitler was never born and instead the WWII was fought between the Allied and the Soviet forces. You take control of ground, naval and air units - unique for each fraction. The soundtrack is made (as usual) by Frank Klepacki and its epic.

This concludes my personal top 10, however tere are many, many more fun games on PS1.

Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit

This game is pure classic racing epicness. It brings me wonderful memories of intense high speed action, especially when playing multiplayer on hot pursuit mode running from the cops.

Asterix

Very fun turn based strategy game. Your goal is to collect 7 different herbs while conquering Roman territories on the map. The game also features fun 3D fighting levels.

Jackie Chan Stuntmaster

Your goal is to save your grandpha who has been kidnapped by some nasty criminals. You are going to kick their asses in 5 different areas - each having its boss in the end. If you make a good result you are going to get a bonus Shao Lin level.

Twisted Metal 2: World Tour

Very well made combat vehicle game.Your goal is to win a tournament fighting in 8 different terrains around the world. In the end, the winner asks the ruler of the world Calypso to grant his ultimate wish...

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: SUB ZERO

This is the second single player MK game on PS next to MK Special Forces where you play as Jax. Although it is still well made game, I`ve decided to put Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero in the recommendation list since the gameplay is more similar to that in the original MK series. Putting it on a single player adventure game works surprisingly well.

Driver 2

Very interesting and quite difficult game. It is something like a primitive version of the GTA 3D series where you can go out of the vehicle and steal another one. You will have to accomplish missions in four different cities - each has a unique secret vehicle that can be unlocked.

SkullMonkeys

This is very cool and funny 2D jump and run game. You play as a ridiculously looking plasticine creature fighting skull headed monkeys.

FIFA 2000

One of the coolest sport games for PSX. You have the ability to create characters and teams.

Love the choices of games, and you've got some of my personal favourites there: Crash Bandicoot 2, Medievil 2 and such. I'll have to try Resident Evil on the PS1, Metal Gear and Fighting Force.

I have to agree with kumar24894 though, a racing game would be good to see on there. Crash Team Racing was a great game, I think Gran Turismo was on there too. What about WipEout? If you haven't played any, don't worry but I'm sure some suggestions will come up!

Voted up, useful and interesting ^^
