6 Awesome Android Games For Children and Adults

Updated on November 25, 2013

Android Games

I grew up in the age of original Nintendo and Sega. Yes, before 3-D, life-like, in your face games. Sometimes, I miss the "good ol' days."

In my house, we have a Wii, Playstation 3 and an XBOX 360 but you won't find me staring at a massive television screen. Instead, I prefer the 4.3" touch screen on my Android phone. This isn't to say I'm not tech-savvy. I know my way around many hi-tech gadgets.

Gaming just isn't one of them. I am a gamer...An Android gamer.

The games I've included in this list are all family friendly. Meaning, even the smallest hands in your life will not be left out.

Bag it!

By Hidden Variable Studios

Bag it! is a fun, fast paced, puzzle game. Drag your groceries off of the conveyor belt and drop them into the brown paper bag. Choose from milk, orange juice, eggs, baguette, cereal, chips, banana and watermelon. Tap your screen to rotate the groceries so they fit. Be careful not to crush anything. You don't want to put a watermelon on top of eggs!

You earn points, stars, and medals for completing challenges within each level. Making food combos will score extra points.

Classic mode has 7 different games including puzzles and endless play. Multiplayer mode will match you with random players or Facebook friends in a high speed game.

Bad Piggies

By Rovio Entertainment Ltd

If you enjoyed Angry Birds (or even hated it) you'll love Bad Piggies. Play from the Piggies point of view!

The Bad Piggies found a map to the birds eggs. The only problem -- it's in several pieces on (Bad) Piggy Island! King Pig orders his loyal minions -you- to recover the map pieces no matter what or where they may be. These pesky pigs have a few objects they can use but they need your help.

Play through more than 72 levels, you have hours of Bad Piggies crashing, exploding and flying! Earn three stars on every level to unlock more puzzles!

Cut the Rope

By Chillingo Ltd

Cut the Rope is a cute puzzle physics game. It has simple rules and easy controls.

The goal in each level is to drop a piece of candy which is suspended by ropes into Om Nom's awaiting mouth. Om Nom is a cute little green monster with a bright red tongue. He will be located somewhere on the bottom of your screen. You must cut the ropes so the candy will fall into his mouth.

You also have to try to pick up all the stars in over 250 levels.

My 5 year old loves this game!

Temple Run: Brave

By Disney

If you've played Temple Run, you will enjoy this variation. The theme surrounds the Disney/Pixar movie, Brave.

You control Merida who must outrun a gaint bear who is chasing her. However, this is no ordinary bear! He's equpped with swords and arrows. Gameplay is essentially the same as Temple Run. Use your touch screen to jump, slide and turn corners while collecting coins.

The new addition to this game are the archery sections, where you must tap on the left and right sides of the screen to fire arrows at targets. If you hit all targets, you will receive a bonus.

This game may scare younger children. It depends on the child. My son has no problem with gameplay.

Scramble with Friends

By Zynga

Being a fan of word games, this is my favorite of the 6 I've listed. Scramble with Friends is similar to boggle.

The goal of the game is to rack up the most points by chaining words together on a grid of random letters. Each player gets a chance at the same game board in three different rounds. Whoever accumulates the most points, wins. The 1st round is basic with no multipliers. The 2nd has a double word (DW) and double letter (DL) tiles. The 3rd and final round has triple word (TW) and triple letter tiles (TL).

You are given a total of 15 tokens with one regenerating every ten minutes. My only complaint is, I always run out of tokens and must wait for refill!

Power-ups are also available for each round. You are allotted up to three. Freeze, inspiration, scramble and vision. One is free but the other two choices will cost you tokens.

You can link to Facebook and play with friends or play random opponents.

Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots

By Halfbrick Studios

Another variation of a popular game, this time it's Fruit Ninja starring Puss in Boots. Join Puss in his search for the Magic Beans.

Gameplay is fairly simple but very exciting and fast paced. Slice fruit with your blade as they are thrown onto the screen. Watch out for bombs, they will end your game! Unlock weapons and new themed backgrounds as you play.

The game features Classic, Zen, Arcade, and online multiplayer games. In Fruit Ninja: Puss in boots, you can also play the all new Bandito Mode to become the greatest Fruit Ninja warrior of all time!
