Anurag loves playing video games. His guides and listicles revolve around popular iOS, Android, PC and console games.

The first cricket game was released in 1996 by Beam Software and EA Sports. Since then, games emulating this popular sport have undergone a significant change. More and more games these days have improved gameplay mechanics, real ball physics, multiple playing modes and 3D visuals. Developers know that squeezing in extra features and game modes make playtime more enjoyable, and they have been successful in attracting fans from around the globe.

Unfortunately, very few cricket games for Android are as good as their PC counterparts. Most games available at the Google Play store are too easy to win or have poor graphics. I have tried to include only those games that have good graphics, plenty of game modes, simple controls and difficult gameplay:

1. World Cricket Championship (WCC)

WCC has 3 modes of play: A World Premier League, Super Fantasy League and World Championship. Unlike other games, Nextwave’s game is quite difficult to master. Hitting spinners for sixes and batting won’t be easy if a player plays the game on medium or hard difficulty level. The game offers a decent number of shots, although a few more shots like late cut would have definitely upped the tempo.

One of the key highlights of this game is slow-mo. Watching those massive sixes in slow motion is an exhilarating experience. The game offers action replay, stats and a Hawkeye-like mode. There’s also commentary to make playtime more interesting, although it can be boring and repetitive at times.

WCC has a points-based system that grants points for unlocking overs, although users can pay money if they want to unlock overs and tournaments quickly. The game also has an asynchronous multiplayer mode that lets players challenge friends to score points and rank up on the leaderboard. WCC is a complete package and offers plenty of features a fan looks for in a mobile sports game.

2. Real Cricket 2014

This is probably the best game available for Android. The visuals are better than most games mentioned in this list. Everything from 2D motion captured animations to hand drawn graphics screams “Awesome”. The game’s slick controls are easy to master, although timing and proper direction is important to reach a respectable score. The game also lets you have a field placement of your choice from a list of aggressive and defensive field presets.

RC 14 offers a wide range of shots, such as MSD’s helicopter shot, scoop shot and paddle sweep. There are over 25 old and new shots to try out. Once you have mastered all shots and bowling styles in the nets, you can head straight to the tournaments.

The game provides several play modes, including a T20 World Cup, Masters Cup and Knockout Cups. There’s also the exciting Super Over mode for those who want a quick match against their favorite teams. RC 14 offers in-app purchases and may require players to unlock authentic equipment and play modes. If you are looking for a solid mobile bat and ball experience, then you must download this game.

3. Cricket T20 fever 3D

This game features extra game modes besides T20 matches. The game tries to be as realistic as it can get and even includes a powerplay system. It allows both batting and bowling. Visuals are okay, but not as good as RC. The latter’s motion capture animation and visuals are better than this game.

The game has over 5 venues, including the Eden Gardens and Lords. Multiple game modes will keep you busy for hours. There’s a quick match mode, regular T20 matches and a Trophy game. Camera moves are excellent. Shows much hard work was done to make it as real as possible.

4. Stick Cricket

From online to mobile, this game has come a long way. And it is getting better with every new update. Besides the usual game modes, the game offers a 2-over T20 mode and a World Cup mode – all in Stick Sports style. Viewed from a batsman’s perspective, this game is hard to master. Proper timing is needed to hit the leather for a six.

Few Android cricket games can be as challenging as SC. The game’s unique third-person perspective makes it even harder to hit the ball. A slight delay and the ball can easily zip past a batsman knocking his stumps off.

The free version has few options and play modes unlocked. You will have to pay money to unlock new teams, game modes and other features. Pro Pack unlocks several new gameplay features, including support for local multiplayer. You can play with your friends via Bluetooth to show who’s a better hitter. For on the go, mobile play, SC can be a great choice.

5. Street Cricket

This game brings “gully cricket” to your mobile. It brings back sweet memories of backyard bat and ball game, where hitting a wall would count as four runs or catching the ball bouncing off the ground would end a player’s innings. Locals make the rules, break them and even modify their own rules, but playing without the official rules is fun and you will definitely find one such game in your area.

SC does exactly that, although the rules here are far simpler. Players score 2 runs when they hit over the building and one run if the ball hits the wall. The 5-over match lets a player choose bowlers from their 5-man team. Batsman can score a run by running between wickets. I wish there were more rules, and different game modes, including the box version. Graphics, well the less we talk about them, the better. Nonetheless, this game’s pretty fun and will certainly make you feel nostalgic about your childhood.

6. Power Cricket T20 World Cup

This game offers 3 exciting game modes: Tournament, Super Over and Scenario. Of these 3 modes, I loved playing the Scenario mode. It allowed me to revisit 30 of the most memorable matches played around globe. These high-tension scenarios were limited over matches that required players to win a match with few balls remaining. Being a batting-only game, Power T20 had only those scenarios that allowed players to step into the shoes of a batsman and hit the winning runs.

Another unique aspect of this game is PowerShots. These are special shots like helicopter, scoop and hook shots that can be unlocked by winning super over games. The Super Over mode offers 3, 5- and 10-over matches for the impatient mobile gamer. And if this does not impress you, then there’s always the good old tournament mode, where you can play against top teams.

The visuals are slick and look as if they have been pulled out of an art book. The controls are easy to learn, with on-screen arrow buttons to set directions and power-shot button to activate your special helicopter, sweep or scoop shot. Sadly, you can’t bowl, otherwise game modes like Scenario would have been more intense, engaging and immersive.

7. Real Cricket: Champions League

The RC franchise has some great games in store for fans and enthusiasts. And Champions League is one of them. Fans of T20 will love the overall presentation of this game. Gameplay mechanics is similar to RC 14. Team names have been changed, but you will be able to choose your favorite local and international players.

The game has a Quick match mode that wills satisfy your thirst for hitting big sixes. With brilliant hand-drawn visuals, excellent fluid animation, and challenging gameplay, Champions League is one Android T20 cricket game you should not miss.
