A Review of the Playstation VR

PSVR AKA Project Morpheus

VR Headset

The headset gets extremely high marks from me because it is light and much more comfortable on my head than the Rift was. It follows all your head movements to a "T". My only complaint on the headset is the large amount of cables attached from it to the PS4 Pro. This is a first generation VR and in my opinion, slightly better than its competition. Mainly because of the delicate attention to detail and the comfort of the headset. The PSVR, in my opinion, is worth it for hardcore Gamers.

Playstation Camera

The PlayStation Camera has uses for PS3 and PS4 games, but for purposes of this article, I am only talking about the camera in relation to the PSVR. It works great and along with the VR headset takes you into 3D realms and a virtual world. It is mall, compact and black in color. The camera can record and it is integral in making VR a reality. The camera comes with a stand and it takes video and photos.

PlayStation Move (Bluetooth, USB Connection)

The motion controllers have balls at the end that change colos based on your VR environment and they also have vibration technology just like the PS4 controllers.

Move Motion Controllers

The PSVR and camera do a great job keeping up with the move controllers while playing games. They are lightweight and they feature the PS4 buttons on it. The circular balls on the ends light up and change colors to follow and recognize all the movements of the player using vr. These controllers take you into the game in real time, and others do not keep up with these which were made with VR in mind. These controllers also connect to guns that Sony makes for the PS4.

PS4 Dual Shock Wireless Controller

The PS4 controller vibrates and has all the buttons the PS3 has except the new version has a spot to attach head phones, a speaker on the controller and instead of a start and select button it has a options button and a mouse pad.

Dual Shock Controllers

The dual shock controllers work great on the PS4 and they have additions that were added since the PS3 controllers. Earphone input, speakers built-in and a mouse touch pad have all been added. As far as the VR goes these controllers lag slightly behind in fast paced games. It is definitely recommended that you use the move controllers rather than the Dual Shock because the Dual Shock controllers do not track the player in real time. It is nice that they are wireless and they do not require a battery but rather a cord for charging.

Gameplay

The gameplay along with the graphics are the hallmarks of virtual reality especially when it comes to the PSVR. It feels so real playing in a virtual world. When you play Batman VR, for example, you really feel as though you are the Dark Knight because whatever you do, the caped crusader does. It keeps up with your every move in all the games I have sampled so far. It actually feels like you are in real life except real life is a video game everywhere you look or turn.

Graphics

The graphics are so realistic. It feels like you are really in the game. Lots of 3D action but the best part is playing everything in first person because it takes you into the game like I never imagined possible. In these VR video games things come at you from all angles and you can reach out and grab them or shoot them in pieces which still blows my mind. Games will never be the same once this catches on. The backgrounds and when stuff comes right at you are my favorite parts of the VR experience.

Sound

The sound depends as much on your T.V. set and speakers as anything. Having said that, the sound, whether it be music or effects, is top notch. I would suggest putting surround sound speakers in each corner of the room and making plenty of space before playing if you want the total experience. The games, thus far, have great soundtracks that coincide with the game action.

Game Titles

The PSVR released 50 titles at launch and although some were a let down, others blew my mind. Batman Arkham VR is an example of how great this device can truly be. On the other hand, this same game is rather short and can be beaten to easily. My favorite game is Resident Evil 7 because it has VR and it is a full length game. Another reason I like it so much is that in VR mode it is downright scary. Other solid games are: VR Worlds, Robinson, Here They Lie, Star Trek, and Time Machine VR. The games need to be slightly longer but the good news is that Sony has plans to release a whole bunch more. The top complaints have been make more games and make them be full length games.
