America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins were authorized by the US government by law in 2008 for beginning production in 2010 along side their smaller cousins the America the Beautiful Quarters and Proof Silver Quarters. Unlike the Silver versions of the quarters found in the Silver Proof Sets, these Silver Bullion coins are much larger, 3 inches in diameter and weigh 5 ounces and are made with .999 fine silver instead of the 90% silver that the quarters are minted at. In other countries 5 ounce coins are 2 and 3/4 inches in diameter so the US is taking these 5 ounce coins in a totally new area for collectors. The giant America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins come incapsulated in a plastic case and comes with their own presentation boxes as well.

At first investors were angry at the US mint for marking up the margin over spot price to double before they were sold to resellers so that by the time they got to consumers the silver investment price just didn't make any sense. The mint then listened to the public and lowered the price to only $1.95 per ounce over the silver spot price for the resellers. Only 33,000 of each coin was minted in 2010 which makes these coins pretty rare. There will be 56 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins in all, maybe more if the US treasury extends the program longer. You can not purchase them directly from the US mint. You have to buy them from resellers like APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange) but even resellers are pretty much sold out of the 2010 coins by now. So most likely you would have to purchase them on the secondary markets like eBay and Amazon. You can ever have your coins graded by PCGS is you think you have a near perfect America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin. Not only are these coins valuable to collectors but many people see them as an investment in silver so you have to act fast to get you hands on these awesome specimens.
