Indie Wednesday - Flower
Thatgamecompany has done it again; it made me wish I had a Playstation 3 so I could play this visual masterpiece of an arcade game known simply as Flower (2009).
Flower has six main levels and a level in the credits. The control scheme is really quite easy: just tilt the controller to make a flower petal fly through the air as if your controller the wind and the petal itself. As you pass other flowers, the petals will fly up into the air as well the the background will change with it. The sky will change colors, windmills that are once stationary will spin, and the colors become more vibrant and bright. In the last two level, you must transform a bland, depressing land into a happy, colorful place.
The purpose of this game is to lighten the player's mood, rather than to challenge them. And it turned out to be such a success that it won the "Independent Game of the Year" in the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards.
You can find Flower on the Playstation Network for $9.99 US.
