Baby Shower - Planning a Diaper Party Where Everyone Brings a Pack of Diapers

Updated on December 12, 2018

First Baby Shower

Since my daughter has no sisters, through no fault of her own, I decided to do her shower. My daughter in law agreed to help me plan the games and I set out to plan the menu, the seating, and hopefully the day will go as planned.

We'll have fun!

Getting a List of People and Addresses

The first step was accumulating a list of who to invite for this shower. We decided on the great aunts, the aunts, grandparents, great grandparents, the close cousins, some friends and special guests.

The list was about 30 people.

Borrowing Chairs

I had to borrow chairs from a few people, and managed to get 45 spots for people to sit down. This was my folding chairs, wooden chairs, couch, and my husband's favorite chair. The accumulated total of seats was hopefully enough for all who were expected.

Although people RSVP'd to me, there were some that did not drive, so they had to bring their driver. This meant that my husband got to entertain a group of men in the Man Cave in the basement. More chips, more pretzels, more beer...

Diaper Party

We ended up with a Pinterest idea for invite that explained that Poop was coming, happening and that all that was necessary was to bring a pack of diapers to the shower.

She was registered at Target and Amazon and if someone decided that they wanted to check the registry, they were welcome to do so, otherwise, a pack of diapers was just fine.

Food

I decided on a 1 p.m. time. So, the menu included sliced ham in a crock pot and Bongards Cheddar sliced cheese. I bought 72 Tailgater buns and people would build their own sandwich.

In another crock pot, I made cheese dip. Easy to make. It's cheese from a jar, salsa and browned ground beef. There are no set proportions, I used 2 jars of cheese, one salsa and 2 cups of browned beef. You melt them all together and turn the crock down to warm. People spoon it over their chips. It's really good.

Lime tortilla chips, regular tortilla chips and chili cheese chips for the cheese dip. I had seen a photo of a doll butt perched on the side of the crock pot of cheese dip. You were supposed to imagine that the infant had pooped and the chips were supposed to represent baby wipes...

Well. It's a poop party, okay!

Four boxes of classic Suddenly Salad, with the additional of a can of diced tomatoes with cilantro, some shredded cheese, some sliced baby sweet peppers, and some previously frozen peas and cubed carrots.

Lots of chocolate pieces, which included malted milk balls, junior mints, and those pretzels with Rollos and pecans.

For the punch, I decided on Pink Lemonade with ginger ale, plus I decided to slice a lime and lemon to float around in it, plus I bought bags of frozen raspberries and peaches, mangoes and pineapples to add to the lemonade. Should be quite delicious!

I saw a cute idea for deviled eggs, where you cut the egg in half and make your egg filling with miracle whip and mustard, then you cut a piece of cheese for a baby face to put at one end of the egg. The Pinterest version showed an egg with a canopy and a vienna sausage for the baby face, and chocolate eyes, but I thought cheese would taste better. But, I thank them for the inspiration!

This may look like a heart, but it's really a butt. This is a diaper party, you understand.

Games and Activities

We have a few games that my daughter in law planned. One is a word scramble. One is a photo age guessing game, where she and I looked through my photos for pictures of my daughters first 15 years. That was tough, since I didn't write any ages on the photos. One picture, I thought was my daughter, turned out to be my niece. My daughter in law told me immediately that it wasn't my daughter, but I was convinced that it was her, so I asked my daughter. She confirmed, with a laugh, that her sister in law was, indeed correct.

At least my daughter in law is in charge of games. We'll be fine!

I did purchase a 30 pack of onesies and made some foam easels that I inserted in the shirts. I also purchased 32 bottles of Puffy Paint, so each person can have a t shirt to decorate. Everyone will take a shirt and a bottle, add their paint to the shirt and pass the bottle to the right. Then, they'll get a new color. UNLESS, we have them pass the shirt to the right and someone else adds their color to the other person's shirt. We will see. You see, my daughter loves art, so these shirts could invariably become tiny works of art, created by a bunch of people. We could actually start a business. Like a group of Picasso's. That could get crazy. Pass the shirt to your left. Pass your bottle of paint to the right.

Nope. Back to reality. Just pass the paint to the right.

I used some household twine and strung up two clotheslines across the corner of my dining room, so we could hang up the onesies to dry and eventually, my daughter can take them home. The baby is due January 12, so she has time to get the dry onesies home. Should be cute to see all of them hanging up.

Guess the Circumference. You get a piece of twine, you must determine how long it needs to be to go around the tummy. Then, you get to put it around the tummy to get the measurement. Closest measurement wins.
