Baby Shower - three must haves for a great shower

(1) The Watermelon Carriage

If you're planning a baby shower and you need ideas for food, you must incorporate the watermelon fruit carriage. Of course, it depends on if it's watermelon season and you can get your hands on one. This is definitely a conversation starter because your guests will ooh and aah over how cute the idea is.

This is basically a watermelon that has been cut up to look like a baby stroller. You can dress up the watermelon with ribbon or lace. Add orange slices and grapes to make fake wheels. Instead of a fruit salad in a bowl, you'll have your guests serving themselves fruit in a cute carriage!

(2) The best baby shower game ever!

Are you sick and tired of playing the same ol games at baby showers like getting a string and guessing how big the mommy's belly is or who is the fastest at drinking from a baby bottle?

I found that this game is a great ice-breaker as well as a fun and zany way to get all the guests and mommy to be involved. You will for sure get loads of laughs and great video footage that you can give the mommy later as a memory.

What you need:

  • 20 - 25 pairs of baby socks (This sounds like a lot but ask around among parents, and I'm sure they'll let you borrow socks for the day)
  • Basket to put the socks in
  • Pair of adult socks
  • Timer

Ask the mommy to be to fold the pair of adult socks as she would with her own laundry because I realized after seeing my roommates in college that there are many variations of folding socks! Each person has 40 seconds (adjust the time according to the number of socks you have) to fold as many pairs of socks as possible according to the way the mommy to be folds her socks. The person who folds the most socks wins. Let the fun begin!

(3) A pretty diaper cake as a centerpiece

Forget flowers as a centerpiece. You can invest that money and buy some diapers to make a diaper cake that the mommy can eventually use for her baby. Diaper cakes are super easy to make, and you can really find inexpensive baby toys at the dollar store to add to the diaper cake to spruce it up.

Diaper cakes are also given to the mommy as a gift, so you can make an elaborate one for her and even wrap it in clear cellophane to present to her as your baby shower gift.
