The Settlers of Catan
"The Settlers of Catan" is a fun board game combining strategy and luck in a perfect harmony. During game you also need to show your trading skills. The trade between players doesn't get stuck because every player is depending on another player for a resource.
The game board is changing on every game and you have to build a new strategy everytime, making it impossible to stick to one winning strategy, so the game is very dynamic and you can play it with friends or family for a long long time.
The settlers of Catan is played by 3-4 players but there is a good extension to the game: "The Settlers of Catan 5-6 Player Extension" for increasing the player number. The game has a deserved best seller board game title in U.S. and Germany, also offering very good expansion sets for different gameplays.

It's not hard to understand the urge of people to play with money when there is no actual money around. Since then the game is the most popular and known board game. Monopoly requires good trading skills and will to manipulate and demolish competitors. A great family game and a good lesson for your kids.

The game can be played by 2-5 players and the game play can be considered short (around 30-60 minutes) for a board game.

"Carcassone" is another European board game settled in Medieval ages. This is a tile placing game, played by 2-5 players. The game is found similar to "the Settlers of Catan" in many ways so you may expect a strategic game play but with a shorter game play (around 30 minutes)
