Best Board Games for the Entire Family
Family Board Game Fun!
Fun New Board Games!
My absolutely favorite game to play with the family is Headbanz! This is a new game from Spin Master Toys. The game comes with 6 plastic bands that hook together to form a band that fits on whatever size head you have. Big or Small! Which is GREAT for my family because some of them have big heads! It also comes with cards with pictures on one side and a timer. That is it! I love it because the game is so simple but fun at the same time. The object of the game is to guess what item is on the card that is stuck in the band around your head. You can't see the object on the card but everyone else can! You get to ask yes or no questions to narrow it down and you try to guess what it is before the timer runs out. This game is great for all age groups. The best part is that you all look ridiculous sitting around the table with the bands around your head. Definitely a wholesome good time! If you have kids then you may watch iCarly on Nickelodeon. If so, you may have watched Spencer and Freddie play this game in one of the most hilarious episodes of iCarly ever!
There are even different versions to choose from now. They have the original game that has pictures of different items that you would find in your household or the outdoors, and animals. This version can be used for kids or adults. They also have a Disney Version for kids with pictures of different Disney Characters on the cards. It comes with mickey ears headbands. I plan on getting this one for my 6 year old this year! Finally they now have an adult version and instead of pictures the cards have words on them. This game usually gets 5 stars on all the reviews that I have seen and I have to agree. Price is right too. In stores the games can usually be found between $15 - $20.
Another new favorite is a game where you sit around the table looking equally as ridiculous, only this time you put glasses on and add on to the nose of the glasses until you look like pinochio. It is called FIBBER. This is a hilarious board game from Spin Master Toys (same makers of Headbanz). The game is easy to learn, interesting and challenging! To win the game, players use their best poker faces and get to show off their most polished fibbing skills. This was on both of my boys' Christmas lists this year and why not? They get the chance to fib and not get in trouble for it!
Not Really New Anymore Board Game
Apples to Apples! Love this game. Another guessing game but what I love about this is it also is a game of chance to be determined by a judge. Everyone gets a chance to be the judge during the game!
The original boxed set contains, green apple cards which have an adjective printed on one side, red apple cards which have a noun printed on one side and a tray for holding the cards. Another simple game for lots of fun!
Each player is dealt seven red apple cards that has a noun printed on each one. Whoever is chosen as the judge picks from the green apple cards that has an adjective (such as crazy, scary, funny, or frivolous) and places it face up for everyone to see. Each player anonymously submits one of their cards that they think best represents the adjactive and then the judge chooses the one he/she likes best! That person gets the green apple card. Whoever gets the most green apple cards wins! So fun! This game retails between $20 - $25 in retail stores. Definitely worth it and now they have a kids version out! Haven't checked that one out yet but it on my list for presents for my boys.
Oldies but Goodies
There are some board games that are just going to stay around forever! For the younger kids there is Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders, Twister and Sorry. All of these games incorporate counting, colors, waiting your turn, and good sportsmanship.
For the older child their are fun games such as Scrabble, Yahtzee, Scategories, Life and Monopoly. Great games that incorporate thinking and problem solving skills. Make them even more fun by buying the game in a theme, famous character, or favorite sports team.
