Best Console Games in 2012

Updated on December 29, 2012

2012 is another year full of sequels in the console game industry. However, there are a few promising newcomers that I hope you will give a try.

Halo 4

As some of the most hardcore fans out their, Halo fans are surely thrilled for this newest release. Microsoft appears to be keeping details about this new game relatively quiet in hopes of raising intrigue no doubt. However, from screenshots it appears that the blue guys will kill some alien bots and then the red guys will talk to some sexy half naked blue Venusians (that's a resident of Venus for those wondering). So I'm sure Halo fans will not be disappointed.

Released: November 6, 2012

Console: Xbox 360

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

As a huge fan of Call of Duty: World at War I am always excited for the newest CoD release. However, I will admit that I have become bored with this FPS. Although I am sure Black Ops 2 will be another huge release for Activision, I predict this franchise going the way of Guitar Hero relatively soon.

Released: November 13, 2012

Consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed games may be the most popular single-player games currently out there and the newest game will be no exception. Attendants at this year's E3 convention are singing AC3's praises. The newest game takes place in Boston, MA during the Revolutionary war era. Not only will you be able to enjoy amazing graphics and unique gameplay, you can also feel like a patriotic badass as you stick it to some redcoats. Sorry England.

Released: October 30, 2012

Consoles: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC

Resident Evil 6

If Resident Evil 6 is anything like RE5 you can expect a fun and insanely challenging game. I am not one to pour over those strategy books at Gamestop but RE5 had me doing just that, damn you Wesker!!!! I have high hopes for this game and encourage anyone who has never played a Resident Evil game to try this one.

Released: October 2, 2012

Consoles: PS3, Xbox 360

Mario Songs Acapella

Super Mario Bros. New U

I cannot think about Mario without singing all the classic Mario songs so please enjoy the above video. This game is making me wish I had my Wii back. I miss the hell out of Mario and this throwback should satiate your thirst to game like it's 1989.

Released: December 31, 2012

Consoles: Wii

Borderlands 2

Borderlands was an instant hit when it was released in 2009. This FPS breaks the mold and offers a good break from the more traditional games of late. As long as Boderlands keeps the same basic graphics theme, which it appears like it will, then this is going to be another huge hit for 2K Games.

Released: September 18, 2012

Consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Dust 514

Dust 514 is an MMOFPS that plays somewhat like capture the flag. You are on a team and fight to gain control of a district which contains various supplies. Each team has a commander that plays more like an RTS role, determining where and when things will occur. As far as an FPS goes, this one seems very in depth. Far more interesting than running around a map chucking grenades into random windows hoping for a triple kill.

Released: June 29, 2012 (Open Beta)

Console: PS3 (downloadable)

Sleeping Dogs

Sleeping Dogs is about an undercover cop trying to take down a gang in Hong Kong from the inside. You are working to avoid having your cover blown which will allow you to drive recklessly, gamble illegally and even sing a little karaoke. This game includes hand to hand combat and a few scenarios that may remind you of GTA (hint: hookers).

Released: August 14, 2012

Consoles: PS3, Xbox 360

Darksiders II

If you ask the Mayans or various nut jobs you will know that 2012 is the end of days. Since the world is scheduled to end only a few short months after the release of the new Darksiders release, you might as well prepare for the post-apocalyptic world by playing one of the four horsemen. This game allows for armor and skill customizations often overlooked in console games allowing you to create a unique gaming experience.

Released: August 14, 2012

Consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Dishonored combines all of your favorites into one insane first-person assassin game. You have unworldly abilities allowing you to take out your enemies swiftly and without mercy. Aside from kick ass skills, this game also encourages you to use your surroundings to improve your game. Stalk in the shadows to remain unseen and possess nearby critters to do your bidding.

Released: October 9, 2012

Consoles: PS3, Xbox 360, PC

The Last Story

A Wii MMORPG with great graphics? Yeah it actually exists in The Last Story. You can opt to run the game PvE style and focus on dying your outfit the right color and questing, or you can take a team of 2 to 6 online for a PvP battle with varied and unique magical spells at your disposal.
