Best Dollhouse to Buy Your Little Girl

Updated on February 20, 2014

Qualities of a Good Toy Dollhouse

  1. It's durable enough to stand up to play.
  2. Its price is a good value.
  3. It can be expanded on with furniture or accessories

Why Buy a Doll House?

Doll houses make incredible gifts for little girls for a broad number of reasons. If you've ever been a child who had one to play with, you'll understand that they bring with them a creative playground that allows a child's imagination to run free and wild -- which is exactly what you want as a parent, guardian, or other relative.

A dollhouse is a toy that will be cherished, remembered, and if it's a good one, potentially passed on to future generations to play with and to enjoy. The key is to choose one which will remain durable and will stand up to a child's hard play.

This page recommends a small handful of dollhouses which will work well for younger children. If you're interested in purchasing a doll house kit to build for yourself or someone special (over the age of 12, please!), then you should check out this hub on choosing a dollhouse kit.

Features to Look for in a Child's Doll House

When you're looking to purchase a doll house for a little girl (or a little boy!), you don't want to buy a house you're going to have to worry will be damaged by play. Traditional (built) doll houses that come from kits you buy at the craft or hobby store are too fragile to stand up to play and therefore should be avoided. As beautiful as they are to look at, they aren't good for children.

Avoid buying a doll house kit for a child, and opt instead for something made by a trusted toy company, like Fisher Price.

Of all of the features that you'd like to see in a doll house for your little girl, the single most important feature that you can have for your child's dollhouse is that it is durable. If the dollhouse cannot stand up to play, it's not worth the purchase price, and doll houses lean toward "expensive" as toys go. This is an investment for your child, so get the right one the first time to avoid future disappointment.

You may also wish to look for a doll house that comes with a good value. Value, in essence, is what you get for your money. The dollhouse recommended on this page is an exceptional value as it will last throughout the years for your child (or children) and costs less than many other models available online.

Fisher-Price Loving Family Beach Vacation Mobile Home
Fisher-Price Loving Family Beach Vacation Mobile Home
This takes up a little bit of space, but your little girl (or boy!) is sure to love letting her (or his) dolls go on vacation with the Loving Family RV Mobile Home! A great add-on for your doll house.

Why the Fisher Price Loving Family Dollhouse?

The Fisher Price Loving Family Dollhouse line is fantastic for children because these houses are durable, affordable, and expandable. They close down nicely for storage, becoming small enough to slide into a closet or other storage space, and for that reason are very convenient. All pieces (furniture and expansion) fit into the dollhouse and fold away so that you don't have to find a separate space to keep all of the accessories!

This is also a very expandable doll house line. Accessories and furniture kits are available on Amazon and in toy stores, so that you can get everything you need to make your doll house a real home for your child's dolls. An RV kit is even available for doll families who enjoy traveling!

You can purchase the RV to the right, or continue browsing this page for the dollhouses available (such as the Loving Family Dream Dollhouse, available below). Your daughter or son is sure to love anything you buy from this page, no matter what the occasion! What a great way to say "I love you!"

This is the most basic of the Loving Family Doll Houses from Fisher Price. It's the smallest (and also the least expensive) version. It would make a great affordable gift for a particularly young child if you're looking for a starter doll house, but the Loving Family Grand Dollhouse is the one which is most recommended because of the amount of space it provides (including exterior).

The Loving Family Doll House Lines are Great for Creative and Imaginative Play

Because it can be expanded with additional furniture (it comes with some furniture from the start) and a family of dolls, the Loving Family Grand Doll House provides so many opportunities for your daughter or son to play in an imaginative fashion. Durable, it will last for years and potentially through several children as well. My daughter is especially hard on her toys, and her Loving Family Grand Dollhouse has survived for three years already, with very few signs of visible wear.

Thank you! I love the one my daughter has. Dollhouses are a personal hobby of mine but of course you don't want the kids playing with the fragile versions!

I agree that dollhouses must be durable, because they will be endlessly played with (and sometimes not even feature as the dolls house!) My daughter has a Fisher Price dollhouse and it was very good. It even had a doorbell noise when you pressed the front door button. Highly recommend FP brand. Voted useful.
