Zett is a student who absolutely loves video games. He is very fond of game with fantasy, adventure, and action genres.

Strategy games are one of the most popular game genres as of late, with Clash of Clans clearly taking the lead. However, due to the limited source of stable and fast internet connection, most game enthusiasts usually abandon the top strategy games in the Android market which as you know requires internet. As a result, every gamer tends to search for ones that they could freely play offline.

Hence, if you are one of those gamers searching for a fun and challenging strategy games, here is a list of the best and most popular Android strategy games you can freely play offline.

1. Plague Inc.

Plague Inc. is a strategy –stimulation game that lets you infect the world with a disease. The main goal is simple: infect and kill the world’s population. You can select from different forms of your disease, from a simple bacteria to the most complex bio-weapon.

The recent updates in the game add other types of diseases such as the Neurax Worm. Though the goal might be simple, there are several factors that make the game challenging. Events such as an 'airplane sterilization improvement' and a 'breakthrough in understanding symptoms' could be your greatest obstacles. Not to mention, humanity does not stand idly if your disease is killing thousands - they develop a cure. Thus, killing the global population is a race against the cure.

On the other hand, aside from the normal mode, updates have also added scenarios. These scenarios reflect a different situation on Earth compared to the normal assumption. For instance, a volcanic eruption has occurred affecting all flights globally. In this type of scenario, transmission via airplanes of your disease has been removed. Therefore, you must find another way on how to transmit your disease. This makes the game more fun and challenging.

2. Age of Civilizations

Age of Civilizations is one of the most famous strategy games with regards to world domination. The overall game-play mainly involves with you trying to conquer every country in the world.

You must conquer lands to raise your economy, and build a strong army. You can even build ports (which enables you to send an army to the sea), watchtower (which enables you to see your enemies number on the surrounding land), and fort (which raises the defense of the area). Moreover, you could even form an alliance with other nations and sign peace treaties. It might seem entirely easy, but with dozens of nations out there and countless lands to conquer, the game has certainly raised its difficulty and excitement.

Each game will be separated by levels, and logically, each increase in level will result in an increase in difficulty. In addition, you’ll be awarded points if you’ve successfully finish a level. Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of the most popular horror games in Android, and undoubtedly one of the best strategy games. The game’s goal is direct and simple: survive the night. Using cameras placed at different locations and controls for doors, windows, etc., you must defend yourself against the scary mascots. These mascots appear and disappear frequently so you might want to watch out. It might seem quite effortless, but with a few amount of cameras, restricted controls, and a limited number of electric supply, surviving the scary night proves to be challenging.

5. Townsmen

Townsmen combines strategy and management to make a kingdom-building game. The goal is relatively simple: you need to build your own self-dependent kingdom using the available resources. These resources can be acquired through building structures, trading with a merchant, engaging in the public market, or mining.

As a building game, you also need to construct different facilities in order to satisfy your citizens’ needs. Of course, planning a careful strategy is the best way to lessen your citizens’ dissatisfaction and raise their happiness. For instance, building less of farms could lead to famine, while building too much of mines could lead to an excess of materials which could ultimately lead to less accommodation of resources in your storage.

Additionally, there are also other scenarios and maps you could choose. You may want to build your kingdom near a river or solve a drought situation occurring in your kingdom. Try to explore and have fun building the most successful kingdom the world has ever known.

6. Osmos HD

Osmos is a puzzle-strategy game developed by Hemisphere Games. You will be playing a cell-sized organism and each level has a goal for you to complete. Most of these goals vary but, usually involves getting your cell to eat and grow to a larger size. It’s fairly simple but needs effort. Your cell could only eat other cells or organisms which are smaller in size. Much more, every level offers a new type of ‘map’, making it harder for your cell to grow.

The game also offers three different game-plays. 'Odyssey' is the main part which is considered to be the story mode of the game. 'Arcade', unlocked after some progress in Odyssey, contains the puzzles you encountered in the Odyssey that you might want to play again. And finally, 'Multiplayer', which lets you compete with other people online or through the use of a WiFi connection or a hotspot.

7. Kairosoft Game Series

When people hear strategy, they would likely point out the management games developed by Kairosoft. Here are several games developed by Kairosoft that gained popularity over the years.

  • Cafeteria Nipponica
  • Dream House Days

If you are a Kairosoft fan, then Fiz would be the best game for you to play. Fiz is a business management game developed by Bit Studios. You’ll be playing as the ‘owner’ who manages a brewing business or commercial organization that produces alcoholic drinks. Therefore, you would mostly find yourself searching countless beverage recipes, producing beverages based on recipes, and selling them on different markets. You also have the option to participate in contests and hire excellent staffs. The goal of the game is simple: try to conquer the beverage market!

9. Minecraft Pocket Edition

Nothing can beat Minecraft when it comes to building-strategy games. Minecraft surely has been popular not only among Android users but also with its predecessor which is in Windows PC. The main game-play is quite simple: survive the night without getting killed by monsters.

You must gather resources through collecting it simply from your surroundings (e.g. trees and animals) or by mining it in the caves, mountains, or underground. Conversely, most resources can only be acquired using different tools such as the crafting table or the furnace. And don’t forget to eat, or you’ll end up dying due to hunger.

On the other hand, if you want a milder play, Minecraft could offer you its 'Creative Mode'. There are still monsters around, however, unlike in the 'Survival Mode', they are passive. In other words, they will only attack you when you hit them first. Also, as the name of the mode suggests, you are free to create whatever you want since you initially have all the resources and blocks to use. You can maybe build an underground castle, a floating island, or anything that you can think of. Be creative!

Conclusion

That ends my list for now. If you’re interested in any of the games, don’t hesitate to try and play. And don’t forget to have fun and enjoy.
