Black Ops 2 Zombies Will Use Multiplayer Engine & Feature 8 Players!

Updated on July 15, 2012

The next Call of Duty game Black Ops 2 is going to be bigger than ever! While many players are awaiting another single player experience and multiplayer experience, many are anxiously awaiting Black Ops 2 Zombies! Since World at War, zombie mode has become extremely popular among gamers. Zombie mode is returning to Black Ops 2, but this time, it's going to be expanded upon more than ever!

Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia has given some "hinted" information about Black Ops 2 zombies.

“They want bigger maps” says Lamia. “They want even more interesting things to do inside these levels. So we are crafting new worlds, creating new game modes and bigger worlds.”

Ever since the first Call of Duty zombie level, the zombie maps have continued to become larger in scale and include new weapons, objects to use, and perks. For example, the last map for Black Ops was called Moon. Moon was by far one of the largest maps for zombies and featured a special type of gravity. Black Ops 2 maps are likely going to be twice the size of Moon, or at least have more options for moving around the map.

Mark Lamia also says zombies will be running on the multiplayer engine, which means it will be able to handle larger environments, more players, and other features.

“We’ve actually put [zombies] inside of our multiplayer engine and it’s capable of doing twice as many zombies, twice as many co-op players.”

Black Ops 2 Zombies 4vs4 Game Mode!?

While Black Ops 2 zombies will have the classic game mode where you and other players try and survive as many rounds as possible, new game modes are going to be introduced. There is going to be a versus game mode where you fight against other players while the zombies are still a threat! Imagine all the chaos as you try and eliminate the other team, but must also contend with the zombies! This would make for an interesting game mode because you will have to survive against the zombies, but at the same time, seek out the enemy team.

There are not too many details about the zombie versus game mode, however, I would imagine it has all the same (or similar) features as classic zombie mode just with more human players in the mix. Does this mean players on each team will be fighting to use the random mystery box to acquire better weapons? How will the respawn system work in Black Ops 2 zombies versus mode if there is one?

8 Player Cooperative too much?

While there will be a classic zombie game mode, would 8 player cooperative be too much? Many players in games often argue over who should guard which window or what barricade(s) to open. How is this going to work? Will there be separate spawn rooms? Or maybe the 8 player cooperative mode is going to be completely different than the classic mode we are used to?

The fact that Black Ops 2 Zombies is using the multiplayer engine is great news. This means the larger maps should not be laggy. Let's just hope there is some type of host migration in Black Ops 2 zombies. If the host quit in a zombie map on Black Ops, then all the players would be kicked from the game. Hopefully that will not be an issue in the next Black Ops.
