Black Ops Call of the Dead Zombie Level - Features George A. Romero & more!

Updated on May 28, 2011

New Characters in Black Ops Zombies!

The new zombies map for Black Ops is here! Call of the Dead from the Escalation map pack released on May 3rd, 2011 on Xbox 360 features brand new playable celebrity characters. This includes Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Danny Trejo, and Micheal Rooker. The horror director, George A. Romero, is also in call of the dead, but not as a playable character. George A. Romero is a zombie who will walk around the map following the players in the game. There is an opening cut-scene that introduces all the characters, but it can only be seen when playing on solo. The cut-scene shows the characters on a movie set fighting off zombies. At one point, however, a real zombie emerges from a window and attacks George A. Romero. The characters then realize that they have to fight real zombies!

Call of the Dead takes place on a shore with a lighthouse on top of the level and a large abandoned ship at the bottom. It is the largest map ever created for zombies. The weather will constantly change from heavy snow to light snow -- a new feature never seen on a Call of Duty Black Ops zombie level before. At the start, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Micheal Rooker, Robert Englund, and Danny Trejo spawn on the shore. You can not choose which of these characters you will play as, it is random. Once the first round starts, George A. Romero comes out of the water as a zombie. He does not look like a traditional zombie, however, he will attack you with his directing light. If you shoot at him he will go into berserk mode. In his calm state, he will simply walk around slowly and try to attack the nearest player. In George's berserk mode, he will run around very fast attack the nearest player(s) with his weapon. To get him out of berserk mode, you need to get him in the water.

Black Ops Zombies "Call of the Dead Characters

George A. Romero can not be killed with normal weapons very easily (you need upgraded weapons to kill him faster). Shooting him does not give players any points either. He should be avoided as much as possible.

The characters will occasionally speak during gameplay just like the original zombie survivor characters did. They often speak when you run out of ammo or something. Personally, I thought the addition of these iconic characters was great. Just in case you do not know who these characters are, here is what they are known for:

George A. Romero - Horror Director who filmed Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Most known for her role in the 1990s TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Robert Englund - Most known for his character Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street Films.

Micheal Rooker - plays the character Merle Dixon on the Walking Dead TV series on AMC.

Danny Trejo - In the 2010 film Machete, which was why he was likely featured as a character on this map. Also known for his tough guy image in many films throughout his career.
