My Tamagotchi Music Star Toy

Blast from the Past!

Back in the 90's, it seemed like every kid and tween had a Tamagotchi. These fun, interactive toys became the bain of teachers' existence everywhere as children could not put these down in school. There were even reports of widespread "Tamagotchi bans" in school across the country.

Recently, I was going through a box of old things, and discovered a Tamagotchi toy that I had years ago. I am thirty now, but I was curious enough to pop a new battery in the toy to see if it still worked. Sure enough, with a satisfying beep, I soon had my very own "pet" to take care of on the small digital screen.

I couldn't let my new pet die, so I decided to take care of it. Whenever I play with my Tamagotchi out in public, the looks I see on people's faces are priceless! People can't believe I have a Tamagotchi, and frequently tell me stories of Tamagotchis that they used to have, and how much they enjoyed playing with them.

Cool New Tamagotchis with Color Screens!

Not currently for sale in the US, the new Tamagotchi iD L sports a significant upgrade from Tamagotchis of yester-year with a full color screen and more in-depth story lines. At first, this Tamagotchi was only available in Japan with foreqign characters, but Bandai China has produced a version of the Tamagotchi iD L which is in English.

The English version of the Tamagotchi iD L is only authorized for sale in Hong Kong, but US buyers who must have one can often find them on eBay. The English Tamagotchis with the color screen come in a white box and are made by Bandai China....see and example of the packaging to the right. But be prepared to pay a premium. These English Tamagotchis often sell for $120 or more on eBay, as true Tamagotchi fans want the latest and greatest toys available.

My favorite Tamagotchi toy that I've ever owned. It is pictured here with no battery, but it does indeed still work after all these years!

Reasons Why a Tamagotchi Is Better than Your Smartphone for Gaming

1. Tamagotchis don't need to be connected to anything. No data service? No problem! The Tamagotchi is a stand-alone toy, and will work wherever you are.

2. The battery lasts forever! Don't worry about toting a charger cable with you, because a Tamagotchi will work for months and months on a single lithium watch battery.

3. No complicated rules or new phone gestures to learn. Only three simple buttons...that's all you need to know.

4. Tamagotchis make people smile! Wherever you go, when you pull out your virtual pet, people's faces will light up as they reminisce about their childhood pets of the past.
