Lego Trains is a large Lego Theme that was first produced in 1966 and has spawned loads and loads of different sub-themes. It started off in 1966 with 4.5/12 V Sets which lasted up until about 1986. From 1991 9V sets were produced but in 2006-7 Lego decided to merge the Trains into their Power Functions theme and to release Train sets based on the new electric LEGO Power Functions system. This started in 2009 with the release of The Emerald Night Collection.

Such is the interest in the whole Lego Train Genre that it has even produced it's own Quarterly magazine - "RailBricks" along with its own website www.railbricks.com. which has build instructions for different models based on various lego bricks and sets, Track Planning and Forums dedicated to Lego Train sets. It is also supported by the
International LEGO® Train Club Organization who are a bunch of Lego Train enthusiasts.

This hub will concentrate mainly on the new age of Lego Trains the Remote Control era starting 2007 and still running.The remote controlled trains get their energy from batteries on board and are controlled via a Infrared remote control. For these trains, new non-electricity tracks  With the new sets came many new Train Accessories based on Power Functions including Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box, Power Functions IR Receiver, Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control and Transformer 10VDC.

Passenger Train No. 7897

The Passenger Train Set was released under the City sub theme in 2006 and contains a Remote Controlled passenger train, tracks, a platform, and 3 minifigures of an engineer and 2 passengers. This set has a satisfying 501 pieces.

With the Passenger Train Set, lego enthusiasts can operate the commuter trains that take people to and from work. This set comes with a three-channel wireless remote-controlled motor that operates in seven forward and seven reverse speeds. The remote controls the engine from distances of up to 10 feet. 

The completed set features windows, passenger seating and an LED at the front of the engine car that lights up when moving. The set also includes 20 track pieces, 2 6x24 flats, two molded plastic car ends, remote control, power brick, two electrical connectors, and a sheet of decals. Between the engine and remote, the set requires 10 AA-size batteries, which are not included. The set's track pieces will connect for a roughly two-by-three foot oval track but a larger track can be made by purchasing extra track sections.

The Cargo Train Deluxe Set was released under the City sub theme in 2006 and contains a cargo train, with an engine, a cargo wagon, caboose, a crane car, and a flatbed car, 20 curved, 8 straight, and 2 switching rails, a forklift, a roadster that the crane can lift, a flatbed truck, and 5 minifigures of track workers. This set has a huge 856 pieces.

This Deluxe Cargo Train set has everything you need for awesome railroad adventures. The infrared remote control operates on three different channels at seven different speeds, and even has a real working horn. The remote controls the engine from distances of up to 10 feet.

Motorization will be based on the latest Train Motor and Power Functions containing Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box, Power Functions IR Receiver and Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control. Also included will be 16 pieces of Curved Rails and 16 pieces of the new Flexible Train Track.

The updated set will be firmly based on Power Functions. Motorization will be based on the latest Train Motor and Power Functions containing Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box, Power Functions IR Receiver and Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control. Also included will be 8 pieces of Straight Rails,16 pieces of Curved Rails, 16 pieces of the new Flexible Train Track as well as 1 left and 1 right Switching Track.

Emerald Night No. 10194

The Emerald Night Set was released in 2009 and contains an A3 Pacific steam locomotive with furnace to the opening tender and dining car and 3 minifigures of an engineer and 2 passengers. This set has a whopping 1085 pieces.

The Emerald Night set does not include any train track or a motor. However, it can be motorized by adding with the new Power Functions motors, IR Speed Remote control, and rechargeable battery box introduced at the same time as this set. New RC flexible track was also introduced with this set at the same time and could be purchased separately. The train has lots of authentic touches including elements in rare colors and and is also the first train to have all-new large train wheels with piston motion.

Emerald Night Collection No. K10194

The Emerald Night Collections Set was released in 2009 and contains all the elements of the 10194 set plus all the bits and pieces that you needed to add separately such as track and Power Functions motor.

This set was available exclusively in LEGO shop@home online. However it does occasionally come up for sale on Ebay and when it does it will appear on the right this may range from the complete set to pieces from the set.

Train Station No. 7997

The Train Station Set was released in 2007 as one of the accessory packs that could be added to Lego Train Sets. It included a train station, with a clock, a schedule, a ticket machine, 4 RC straight tracks, a rail car that can go on the track, and 5 minifigures of passengers. This set contains 387 pieces.

This set allows you to really extend the Train sets that come from Lego and this set doesnt only include a station but also  a mini convenience shop and extra seating behind the ticketing area, there's also a cafe seating area on the top level. The extra track also lets you make your setup just a little bit bigger.

Level Crossing No. 7936

The Level Crossing Set will be released in August 2010 as one of the accessory packs that could be added to Lego Train Sets. It will include a Level Crossing and 4 RC straight tracks and 1 minifigure. This set will contain 110 pieces.

This set allows you to really extend the Train sets that come from Lego. The extra track also lets you make your setup just a little bit bigger.

Train Station No. 7937

The Train Station Set No 7937 is an upcoming release under the City sub theme due for release in August 2010. It will be an updated version of the previously released set (No. 7997) of a Train Station and platform, and 5 minifigures.

The design appears to be based more on No. 7822 which was released way back in 1980 and is much more of an urban design of station than the more prosaic country style of 7997. The updated set will also include 4 Sections of Straight Rails to help you extend your Lego Rail network.

Train Motor No. 8866

The Train Motor Set was released in 2009 as one of the accessory packs that could be added to Lego Train Sets. It is used for motorization of RC based Trains as well as Power Functions based Trains. The set contains 7 vital pieces

This Train motor has been re-designed for more power and Power Functions socket compatibility for Power Function based Trains; thus elimenating the need for a 9V to Power Functions connecting wire. The re-designed motor will be integrated in the first completely Power Functions based Trains sets released in 2010.
