Make a CD Case Dollhouse Craft

Updated on November 21, 2013

Recycle the Old into New Crafts

Do you love crafts and have a creative and imaginative mind? Sometimes the burden of purchasing items outweighs the ambitious idea. Why not use household items to clean up and recycle unwanted materials? By using materials in craft projects which are already at your disposal, unused and unwanted materials take on a whole new meaning! This is a great way to teach your children about using old things instead of always buying something new. If you don't have materials handy you can always browse your local thrift shops, flea markets and yard sales to find unwanted items which can take on new life. Below is a creative idea for using some old household items just lying around.

Want to do something fun with all those old CD cases lying around? These days most people put their cd's into insertable folders which can hold all the cd's and create room in the house. But what to do with all that old plastic? Here's an idea that is fun for kids and a great way to teach them how to turn something old into new.

What you will need:

*Hot Glue Gun

*CD Cases

*fun decorations ie: paper flowers, glitter, beads (optional)

Easy Craft Using Household Items

Make It a Dollhouse Castle!!

This is a simple craft to make.  First; create the base or foundation for your doll house.  Depending on how large you want it to be.  I took 5 CD's across and did 3 rows to create the floor.  To get creative you can even color match the floor.  I chose dark or brown colored cd's for the floor in an effort to create the wood floor look.

Next; begin glueing them together using a hot glue gun.  Keep in mind the glue dries fast so if you are connecting multiple sides you have to make sure to glue all the sides prior to attaching them.

From there you can begin to create walls.  My dollhouse has an opening on both sides so the kids can get in from either way.  I didn't close in the rooms inside entirely but created partial walls with CD's so they could play.  I tried to keep most of the outside walls of the dollhouse with the clear side of the CD case so the kids could later decorate their house.

Depending on how many CD cases you have for your can add a second floor.

Next, take a CD case and open it up, glue the sides leaving a peak for a roof.  I created 3 of these "roofs" to give the dollhouse craft a special castle look.

Finally, let the kids decorate it themselves.  You can have them paint it, glitter it up, whatever you want!  My children added paper flowers to their house inside and out for decor.  Either way they will enjoy making this project with you and will love playing with their new doll house!

I'm going to share this on one of my crochet groups. It isn't crochet, but I bet they'll like it.
