Choosing Your Perks

Perks are one of the most important parts of your soldier, they form what is essentially the spine of a good class. Therefore, it is so important to choose the right perks for each situation to keep you alive, get you the kills, and get that Loki Strike.

The Perk System has been redesigned once again in Infinite Warfare, following on from the "10-Point" system in Black Ops 2, Infinity Ward has built on the success of Treyarch to provide us with a brand new system.

Firstly, there are 7 different perk types to choose from.

  • Speed
  • Handling
  • Stealth
  • Awareness
  • Resistance
  • Equipment
  • Elite

The player may choose any combination of perks from any of these classes, e.g. 2 from speed and 1 from handling.

Each of these classes comes with a unique trait defined by their name.

Secondly, each player get 8 perk points (up to 12 without weapons/grenades) to spend on perks and each perk has a different value.

  • Deadeye costs 5 perk points and grants a chance of additional weapon damage
  • Overkill costs 3 perk points and gives you 2 primary weapons
  • Sleight of Hand costs 2 perk points and makes you reload faster

The player may use a combination of perks from different classes, the primary weapon, secondary weapon, lethal grenade and tactical grenade all count as 1 Perk Point and you can sacrifice them for an extra perk, making Ghosts the most customizable Call of Duty yet!

The New Game Mode Cranked
The New Game Mode Cranked

Added Note

Because Cranked gives you certain perks when you get your first kill, it is important to consider this when choosing your perks, it would be better to choose a perk such as Off-The-Grid instead of Marathon and Sleight-of-Hand since you're going to get them anyway after one kill.

Being Cranked gives you the following perks:

  • Ready Up
  • Sleight Of Hand
  • Agility
  • Marathon
  • Stalker
  • Quickdraw

Choosing The Right Game Mode

Choosing the right game mode is just as important as the Perks, some game modes are in COD just for fun but the people wanting to rank up as quick as possible, there are some game modes you want to avoid, and some which you want to play all the time. The modes you want to avoid tend to be kill-based games only such as Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All and Infected. The best game modes for XP are usually objective based games such as Domination or Search and Rescue. But, hands down the best game mode to play is the brand new game mode Cranked.

For those of you that don't know what Cranked is, it is basically Team Deathmatch but with a twist - when you get a kill after dying, you double in speed, and do everything quicker. Also, you get double XP for every kill while Cranked.

The game lasts 100 points, you get 1 point for your first kill and 2 points for every kill while Cranked, because of this, games normally last around 4 to 5 minutes - half the length of a normal TDM.

The average player will get around 12 kills on average, this equates to about 4,000 XP each game. Combined with the short game times, this equates to about 50,000 XP/Hour. This is much higher than most other game modes and is of course why Cranked is the game mode to play.

My Favourite Class

My favourite class for Cranked is the following:

Primary Weapon: MSBS

Attachments: Red Dot Sight and Grip

Perks: Quickdraw, Off The Grid, Scavenger, Ping and Gambler

Scorestreak: Support - Satcom, Ammo Crate and Ballistic Vests

Try to stay in the mid, long range with this weapon as it incorporates accuracy as oppose to fire rate and damage. It is 3 round burst so it is easy to get a kill in 1 or 2 shots, depending on how accurate you are. This is not so much a rushing class, camping is still quite effective amongst the high pace of Cranked.

Choosing The Right Weapon

The weapon you choose is not as important as you might think, everybody has a different play style and in Ghosts, the difference between rushers and campers has grown significantly due to the customisability of the soldier. Therefore I am not going to tell you what the "best gun to use" is or anything like that.

COD: Ghosts has included a brand new weapon class - Marksman Rifles. This means that there are now 7 different gun classes to choose from:

  • Assault Rifles
  • Sub Machine Guns
  • Light Machine Guns
  • Marksman Rifles
  • Sniper Rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Riot Shield

Assault Rifles:

Assault Rifles are probably the most common weapon type to use, they are the perfect blend between damage, fire rate and accuracy. They are suited to pretty much any range and are perfect for close-quarter-combat and long range gun fight.

Sub Machine Guns

Sub Machine Guns are also a common weapon type, they are not so good at long range fights but will dominate in almost all close-quarter gun fights. They generally do less damage but have a higher fire rate and thus, lower accuracy. They are very mobile guns and so are perfect for rushers.

Light Machine Guns

These are not so common in COD. They are slow to run with, slow to ADS, slow to reload and have terrible hip-fire accuracy; however, they have massive magazine sizes - up to 100. Also, they are perfect for long range gun fights as they have a really good penetration so you can kill enemies even behind light-medium cover.

Marksman Rifles

Marksman Rifles are, as I said, brand new in Ghosts and at the moment I feel that they are very under-used. They are good at mid-long range and if you attach the iron sight, they are also pretty useful at close range. They are all semi-automatic or bolt-action so are basically snipers but with less damage. It is very useful to use these with RDS and 3-Round-Burst.

Sniper Rifles

Snipers are the same as always. The L115 returns with the USR, these 2 are the main quickscoping snipers. They are very mobile and accurate, they have 1 shot kill for nearly anything, but are both bolt-action, with the other two snipers being semi-automatic.

Shotguns

Shotguns are the traditional run-and-gun class. Often they are used in conjunction with speed perks. Shotguns are only good for close range, anything else is useless so consider this when running around - don't run across open areas, go the underground, compact route to avoid the chance of being sniped or machine gunned.

Riot Shield

This is pretty rubbish for anything but camping. It is 2-hit-kill and can only be used within knifing distance, it does however provide cover from bullets.

Thank You!

I hope this guide has helped you to rank up quicker than you were before. Remember that you are not going to get 10th prestige in a week, it takes time. But on the plus side, you have a year to do so!

At first I ranked up quicker in Domination until I got used to the guns. You get xp based on capturing and neutralizing points as well as getting kills. The xp rates are rather high with less then 5 kills you can often still get 4k xp a match.
