E3 2013

The very first glimpse of Kingdom Hearts 3 was given to us at the June 2013 E3 Expo when series creator Tetsuya Nomura revealed a short teaser announcing the game. This came directly after the announcement that the long-delayed Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be rebranded and released as the fifteenth mainline Final Fantasy Game, Final Fantasy XV.

D23 2013

At Disney's D23 Expo in 2013, a gameplay trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 was released, it shows Sora, Donald, and Goofy in Twilight Town fighting against heartless, it also shows off the world of Disney's Hercules confirming that it returns for the third entry in the series. Gameplay here is still in an extremely early state and it shows, nonetheless it was an exciting moment for all fans of the series.

E3 2014

The next year at 2014's E3 showcase Square Enix released a small teaser trailer at the end of the KH2.5 trailer which revealed no new footage but did feature Japanese audio and English text that are supposedly from the opening of the new game.

E3 2015

We went a whole year before another official trailer was released, but at E3 2015 we received a wealth of new information regarding the game. Two trailers were released, the first trailer features Tangled creator Roy Conli announcing that his film, Disney's Tangled will be featured as a playable world in Kingdom Hearts III. The second of the trailers is a more traditional style, in it we now see the scene that we first heard in the E3 2014 trailer, this time in English and with a cutscene to accompany it, two characters play a variation of chess as they discuss the ancient keyblade war, it was speculated and later confirmed that these two were young Xehanort and Eraqus. The trailer also features new gameplay from the world of Disney's Hercules, Sora fights new heartless and wields an interesting new keyblade, we also get a glimpse of just how large the worlds are. The trailer continues and we get a first look at Sora's new costume and the Tangled world. The trailer then brings us back to twilight town and then returns to the scene of the two young masters playing chess.

Later at that year's D23 event, a new trailer featuring Roy Conli was released, in it, he announced that a world based on his academy award winning animated film, Disney's Big Hero 6 would be featured as a playable world in Kingdom Hearts 3. No footage was shown but there was some concept art of Sora and Baymax.

Orchestra 2017

After a quiet year and a half on the Kingdom Hearts III news front due to the promotion and release of Kingdom Hearts 2.8, we finally received another glimpse of the game at the Los Angeles performance of the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour. In this trailer we see more of the Hercules world as well as a cutscene confirming that Pete and Maleficent will be making a return, another featured cutscene shows Sora encountering Ansem and Xemnas outside of the old Twilight Town mansion.

D23 2017

A new trailer was once again present at Disney's D23 Expo in 2017, this time featuring new gameplay from Disney's Hercules and a new world announcement. After the Hercules gameplay, it is revealed via what is presumably the world's opening cutscene that Disney/Pixar's Toy Story will be a playable world, this marks the first time that a Pixar world will be playable in a Kingdom Hearts game. The rest of the trailer focuses on gameplay in the Toy Story world and reveals another first for a Kingdom Hearts game, a 5 member party. The trailer finishes off with a cutscene featuring Sora and Young Xehanort in the Toy Story world, at the end we now are given an official release year of 2018.

D23 2018

At 2018's D23 Japan Expo we once again were granted a great amount of new information including two new trailers. The first of these trailers opens with the return of Marluxia, the main villain from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and then quickly moves on to the reveal of another Pixar world for Kingdom Hearts III, Monsters Inc. This world had been speculated for months on the tail of some pretty convincing leaks but it was nice to get some confirmation in the trailer, we are also granted some new gameplay from Tangled, an introduction to Ariel as a summon, and an appearance from Vanitas at the end of the trailer. If all that wasn't enough to satisfy us, Disney and Square Enix also released the official Kingdom Hearts III theme song written and performed by none other than Utada Hikaru herself, in this announce trailer we are treated to some updated versions of old footage and at the end new footage of Riku and King Mickey for the first time in their updated Kingdom Hearts III outfits.

Expect more at E3 2018!

While those are all the trailers we have for now it would go as a major surprise if we did not receive at least one new trailer at or before the E3 Expo in June 2018, many are even anticipating an official release date to be announced at that time! Stay tuned for the latest info and I will be updating this article as need be.

Will you be buying Kingdom Hearts III?
