Fire Emblem: Awakening’s Secret Birthday Celebration
The above video made for GameXplain's CoolBits series explains one of the best easter eggs in the entire Fire Emblem series. If you've played Fire Emblem Awakening, you might know that every character has their own birthday. You might also know that if you visit the barracks on the day of a a character's birthday, they will be rewarded with a stats boost. However, you probably didn't know about the deeper significance of characters' birthdays. Each character's birthday corresponds to an important date in the history of Fire Emblem. Lucina's birthday falls on April 20th. Unless you are a huge fan of the series, you won't know what this date signifies. It was the release date of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, the first game in the Fire Emblem series, which was released on the NES, in Nintendo's infancy.
Severa was born on January 21st, and corresponds with Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, first published in 1994. Cynthia's birthday in the game is on May 14th, on which date Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War was first released. Kjelle's birthday takes place on September 29th in the game, which is the date when BS Fire Emblem: Archanea Senkiwas released in 1997. Fire Emblem: Binding Blade was released on March 29th. This corresponds with Nah's birthday on the same day. If you haven't played some of these older games it is well worth checking them out, but beware that console and cartridge prices are massively high, so not all of them are affordable.
