Fisher Price Kick Gym and Kick and Play Piano, Great First Baby Lay Down Toys

Updated on April 11, 2013

As a Mum, Grandma, and with a daughter who is a primary teacher, Alison draws on a wealth of experience for her child-related Hubs.

A Fisher Price Kick Gym or a Kick and Play Piano makes a brilliant first baby educational toy or developmental baby toy for a new baby. Kicking is one of the first motor skills any newborn baby demonstrates – after all, he has been kicking inside the womb for some months before birth! I have picked out these two toys from Fisher Price as examples of really good toys that are interactive and encourage muscle and motor skills development.

There are so many baby gym toys on the market and they all have a lot to offer. However, the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Gym is brilliant value for money and I especially like the way it is designed to grow with the child, through three stages of play. I loved the Fisher Price Precious Planet Kick & Play Piano as it is such fun for a very young baby and it can be moved out of the crib for floor play as he gets older.

Here is what one happy customer had to say about the Ocean Wonders Kick and Crawl Gym:-

"We love it. My daughter plays with it all the time, when she was just a couple months old she would lay under the toys and study them. Then she was able to kick the ball and she wanted to be there a lot. Now that she is sitting my husband and I set her in between the toys and she could plat for hours. She loves pushing the button on the fish to hear the music. Soon she will be crawling so we are getting ready to change it to the tunnel for her. I would recommend the ocean wonders kick and crawl to anyone!!"

Fisher Price Kick Gym

This brilliant Ocean Wonders Kick and Crawl Gym is an updated version of an earlier model, the ‘Aquarium’ Gym.  It is designed to appeal to a young child at three different developmental stages with bright colours and appealing characters that encourage physical activity and development of motor skills.

A very young baby can play whilst laying down on his back and have fun kicking the printed inflatable ball which has another ball trapped inside.  There are things to reach out for, a sea horse with a rattling roller ball and an octopus mirror with clacker beads.

When he is a little bigger and stronger, he can play laying down on his tummy and the toys can be attached to the mat which encourages him to push up and to reach out for his favourite things.

Once he gets to the crawling stage, the toy can be changed into a fun toy with a tunnel he can crawl through.

This toy is going to get a lot of use and inevitably will get grubby but not to worry, it can be machine washed once the foam arches have been removed.

Fisher Price Precious Planet Kick & Play Piano

This is a brilliant toy which rewards even the youngest baby with two fun, dancing lights, two different modes of play either long play which enables baby to enjoy continuous sounds and music, or build a song mode which is activated when baby kicks or taps the soft piano keys to build tunes for himself.  Your baby will love the bright and appealing animal characters too.

The piano can be positioned at the foot of the crib so baby can use his feet, or beside him so that he can reach out with his hands. There is an instruction sheet supplied showing how to fit the piano safely and securely to the crib.

The Fisher Price Precious Planet Kick & Play Piano runs on three AAA batteries that are supplied with the toy (refer to the instruction sheet for how to fit replacements - as you would expect from Fisher Price, the battery compartment is very secure and safe and needs to be accessed by an adult with a screwdriver).

To avoid any possibility of accident, the piano should be removed from the cot once your baby can sit up by himself or pull himself up into a standing position. There should be no possibility of baby climbing up the toy and falling from the cot. At this stage, your baby will enjoy playing with the piano safely on the floor.

Customer review of the Fisher-Price Precious Planet Kick & Play Piano:-

"I purchased 2 of them for my twin grandsons. What a joyful investment. Right now they are only 3 mos and they are alert to the lights flashing and the music playing. What a great toy!"

This is definitely a good toy for babies. This is very colorful and the setup would be great for their development.

Thanks aries3296 for your comment about the kick gym, it is amazing how rapidly babies are developing at this age and the stimulation and encouragement to develop motor skills that these types of toys provide is brilliant. Thanks for sharing your personal experience of a similar product.

The kick gym can keep infants engaged for a good amount of time. The eye and hand contact helps develop their mental alertness. I had something similar when my kids were little.
