Free Poker

Updated on June 21, 2010

Free Poker

Poker is vastly becoming an American pastime, “Texas-Hold’em” in particular. However, due to the very vague legislation in the U.S. today, it is very difficult for individuals to find a legal place to play online. However, there is an alternative. “Free Poker” or “Sweepstakes Poker” sites allow people to play “Free Poker”. These are live multi-table tournaments, games such as Texas Hold’em, video poker and various other games online, while giving individuals an opportunity to win real cash prizes ranging in value from 10 dollars all the way up to 3,000 dollars in a single game, they also provide games that have huge prize packages, such as trips to Las Vegas for bigger tournaments, or just trips of leisure to other places within the U.S. as well, depending on the sponsorship of the tournament.

These sites cost absolutely nothing to play to the players; all of the winnings are paid out from advertisements that the sites generate revenue from, whether it is cash or an actual physical prize. They give away IPad’s, HDTV’s, gaming systems and so much more! All of this is sponsored and paid for through advertisement and various affiliates. I have been playing online poker now for 12 years plus. I have been around since the very beginning. I have played every site there is at one time or another, however, These “Free Poker” sites offer one this other sites cannot; a guaranteed payout! These sites are perfectly legal and legit; I have spent the last six years playing them and have narrowed it down to two fantastic sites and one mediocre site. In all over the last six years I have won and been paid over 5,000 dollars in cash and prizes (I am truly low balling the figure here), last year alone I took in over 2,000 dollars in cash and prizes (mostly cash). Now I do want you emphasize if you win over 600 dollars at one site in a year’s time, you will have to pay taxes on it.

The federal legislation as written has no problem with this aspect of online poker because it is “Free Poker”. Individuals risk no loss! These sites do offer subscription VIP membership but it is not required to play their games at all. The VIP membership does offer some better prizes and the memberships run about 20 dollars a month. These memberships also include ad free games with the exception of games sponsored by certain companies, which prizes are products of the company. Some individuals prefer to play ad free in these “Free Poker” games by purchasing the monthly membership and the games as I stated before could be higher paying games, however being “Free Poker” or “Sweepstakes Poker” like any other sweepstakes you may mail in a 3x5 index card with your information, such as screen name and address so your prizes can be mailed to you. Each mail in is good for 30 days and allows you access to all the games that site has to offer, the only downfall to this method of VIP is that they do not stop the advertisement from a mail-in membership. All of the information you need to become a VIP at one of these “Free Poker” or “Sweepstakes” sites can either be found under their “terms and conditions” or their “site rules”.

Any and all of these sites can be found on Google; however the two main sites I choose to play are National League of Poker (NLOP) and Spade Club. I have been playing on both for years and chances are if you have played either site, then I have played against you. If you enjoy poker like I do for a hobby in your spare time, and are frustrated with the current legislation on online gambling, then maybe it is time to give “Free Poker” a shot. For free entertainment, you will not be disappointed!
