Gears of War Judgment: Multiplayer Modes & New Weapons

Updated on March 15, 2013

Gears of War Judgment is the prequel to the original Gears of War. Although the game's story takes place before the first Gears of War, there will still be a few new weapons along with new multiplayer game modes. One of the most notable new multiplayer game modes is called OverRun. OverRun is basically a mix of horde mode and beast mode. Many multiplayer game modes that were in Gears of War 3 will not be in Gears of War Judgment. Unfortunately some of these include Warzone and Execution. Those two were classic Gears of War game modes. However, even though some multiplayer games modes will not be returning, there will be more players in each type of multiplayer game mode. In Gears of War 3, some multiplayer modes had significantly less players in them because there were a large number of multiplayer modes overall. Judgment may have less game modes, but optimistically speaking, it will be better that way since more players will be in each mode individually. This could mean finding matches faster.

Returning to Gears of War Judgment is Team Deathmatch. This was a very popular game mode in the previous game. It should come as no surprise that Team Deathmatch has made a return. Team Deathmatch pits two teams against each other with a certain number of spawns. Once a team runs out of spawns then they will not be able to respawn again. Whichever team eliminates the other team first wins. Note that spawns are given to the team as a whole, not to individual players.

Gears of War Domination & Free for All

Brand new to Gears of War Judgment, will be the "Domination" and "Free for All" multiplayer game types. Domination is basically an advanced version of King of the Hill. There will be 2 teams competing for control of 3 rings on different areas of the map. When a player stands inside the ring they will eventually take control of that ring and gain points. Whichever team reaches 250 points first will win. Free for All is an "every man for himself" game mode. In this mode you will not have any team mates so you will have to fend for yourself.

OverRun

Also, Gears of War Judgment will feature the highly anticipated "OverRun" multiplayer game mode. As mentioned earlier in this article, OverRun is basically combining both horde mode and beast mode. It will be the COG team versus the Locust Horde. The COG team will focus on building fortifications so they can defend their generator from the Locust. There will be different types of classes you can choose from when playing as the COG. As a Locust, the objective is to destroy the COG teams generator. In the beginning, players will only be able to select weaker types of locust, but as they earn points, stronger and bigger Locust will be unlocked. The Locust must focus on destroying the COGs fortifications to get to the generator.

Will you miss Warzone and Execution game modes?

Gears of War Judgment: New Weapons

There will be several new weapons in Gears of War Judgment. These include the 4 round shot semi automatic Markza sniper rifle, Booshka rocket launcher, beacon grenade, stim grenade, tripwire crossbow, and BreechShot. The BreechShot is basically a Locust version of the Markza sniper rifle. However, the BreechShot will not have a scope, but will have a blade attached to it.

Also, frag grenades are nothing new to the Gears of War franchise, but players will now be able to throw them and stick to them to enemy opponents. Before you could stick them to objects or players (when close), but could not stick them to players when thrown from a distance. This will make frag grenades more useful than ever. But the explosive damage may be less powerful compared to previous Gears of War games to ensure frag grenades are not overpowered.

The beacon grenades allow you to see through walls and identify enemy players. Simply throw it and players in the nearby radius will be highlighted. This will allow you to flank your opponents easier and decide how to attack them. The stim grenades heals and revives team mates. It's basically like a med kit, but Gears of War style of course.
