Hexbug

Updated on November 24, 2011

The Hexbug is one of the coolest toys I have seen in a while. They are a collection of cleverly constructed micro bugs. The run, they walk and they scoot. They are very neat little creatures. These micro robotic creatures have senors in them that allow them to change their course when something gets inthier way.   Many have bought the Hexbugs and have had positive things to say about their purchase. I have also had positive experience purchasing a Hexbug. it was very fun until the dog became interested. A warning to all you pet owners considering this purchase :)

Innovation First Labs, Inc. Hexbug Ant (Colors and Styles May Vary)

The Hexbug ant was one of the first of the Hexbugs we owned.  It worked very well and entertained child, cat, and dog!  This Hexbug Ant is one of the many Nano Micro Robotic  creatures.  It behaves and crawls around erratically like a real ant. The hexbug ant is only two inches long.  It has runs on wheels and gears that make the ant scoot around. A button cell battery powers the ant.  This ant is available in red blue, green orange and purple.  You will not have a choice of color.  Nine customer reviews gave this hexbug four and half stars out of five. Customers like that this micro robotic  bug crawls on carpets. Customers warn that the Hexbug might get hairs trapped in the gears.

Hexbug Nano Starter set

This Hexbug is one of the original versions and resembles a roach!  He comes in several colors including blue, purple, orange, green and red.  This Hexbug true to the rest can change directions when it senses something in front of it or in the back. The tinted clear plastic shell allows you to see the inner workings  of the bug.  This Hexbug received four out of five stars from 21 customer reviews.  It has been found to be entertaining for adults and children!

OWI Frightened Grasshopper Kit - Solar Powered

This little bugger is just cute!  He is a newer Hexbug.  At a reasonable price he is a do it yourslf bug.  Yes you are to put the Hexbug together.  Not only that the bug is solar powered!  It can run from direct sunlight or be powered up by being in close proximity of a florescent light. This scared grasshopper is recommended for ages 10 and up.  Out of 17 reviews this bug was given four out of five stars. Customers state the instructions were somewhat confusing so some adult supervision might be needed to help get the grasshopper together. There is no on or off switch either.  The customers state once it is powered up the grasshopper sits and shakes, much like your cell phone on vibrate.

3-PACK Hexbug NANO - Colors May Vary

The nano Hexbug act like the others, however it has  a feature that is different.  It is still able to sense and go around objects, but it can also flip itself over if it gets turned over.  You can also use your hexbug unique serial number and track the collection online. This set of three is perfect to share or for a cute stocking stuffer.  The hexbug is button battery operated and it does come with a battery.

The Hexbug Inch worm is remote controlled.  The remote has controls that allow the bug to travel in seven different directions. It has four legs and can inch along just like the real thing.  This Hexbug has the same sensors as the others.  it claims to be able to sense the edge of a desk and not fall over.  It is run by a button powered battery and comes in a wide variety of colors.

The Hexbug Larva is a newer to the collection. These robots use slithering motion to move forward. It has an infrared sensor that can detect things in their path. If it does detect something in it's path it swings around on two wheels. Customers stated these robots were cute, but had concerns about the battery life!

The Hexbug Crab comes in five different colors. Customers state that the crab is a great toy. It does move slower than the ant but it is still fun. It is able to walk sideways and responds to motion the same as the other Hexbugs. This crab is about the size of a half dollar.

Ultimate Nano Hexbug Bridge

If you are looking for Hexbugs and their habitat then take a look at this. The Ultimate Nano Hexbug Bridge Battle World. This set contains two hexbug Nanos,Habitat curved bridges and straight bridges, a hexbug habitat set, and power cells for the Nano Habitat. Innovation First Labs, Inc. Hexbug Nano Newton Gravity Series 5 Pack

If you really like the nano Microbug then consider the five pack. Register your Hexbugs on line so you can track your collection. Answer trivia questions on the website to earn more points.

The Hexbug Specimen case allows you to keep your collection safe and organized. You can hold up to 20  hexbugs in their tube packaging.  This is a great thing to have if you collect hexbugs and have a curious dog!

Have fun racing two Hexbugs at the same time. This race track comes with two Nano mutations. The set comes in 28 pieces and is easy to connect. Just set the Nano bugs on the magnetic starter and release. Who ever passes through the finish line first wins! A customer review states this toy was a hit at summer camp.

I am definitely not a lover of bugs, but I may make an exception for the Hexbug. Thanks for the heads up, Ms C.
