Vintage IBM Wheelwriter

These old electric typewriters are very nice. I remember growing up in the 90s when we had an early IBM computer. Technology sure has changed over the years. This old thing must weigh over 25 pounds! It has that classic fading tan plastic shell which is so Iconic from the 80s and 90s.

The IBM wheelwriter is basically obsolete in 21st century America but is still very commonly used in 3rd world countries. There are many vintage computer collectors out there. I have sold to people who collect computers and other electronics over the years but I have never sold a wheelwriter before. These are

I picked up this one for $10 at a thrift shop and you can too if you are very lucky. Generally speaking, since this is such a niche item, few people recognize or understand its value. Old electronics are the best because there can be a lot of money in them and nobody really sees the value. The only problems to worry about with old electronics is that some parts may not work and it can be tough to fix, replace, and repair those items. The most annoying part of these old electronics is by far the weight and size of them. These old things are heavy, relatively fragile, and take up a decent amount of space.

The other thing to consider particular when you are talking about old typewriters and printers is the ink or ribbons. The best place by far to get these is Ebay. If you are lucky, you can find them in lots and save a lot of money. There is a lot of dead stock out there and people who don't know what it is worth usually sell it at very reasonable prices. As for the wheelwriter typewriter itself, you can get that on Ebay very reasonably. I have seen it priced between $50 and $200 depending on condition and what it comes with!
