LEGO Star Wars 2010

Updated on September 24, 2014

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, LEGO would create many sets based on the Star Wars: Episode V movie.

ARC-170 Starfighter

Item #: 8088
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 8-14
Pieces: 396
Minifigures:

  1. Kit Fisto

  2. Captain Jag

  3. Clone Pilot

  4. R4-P44

The Aggressive ReConnaissance 170 Starfighter was used by the Republic as both a fighter and bomber. Their laser cannons were larger than the standard starfighter, which made them useful as an escort for smaller fighters.

Although this is a new design, there are many similarities between this set and the ARC-170 Starfighter 7259 released in 2005. That includes having the same number of pieces. This model has three opening cockpits. As the predecessor to the X-Wing fighter, the ARC-170 Fighter also had opening S-foil wings. There is a TECHNIC rod in the back that can be turned to open the wings or pushed to launch the two flick-fire missiles. The rear cannon was given two barrels, instead of the single barrel used in the original model.

AT-AT Walker

Item #: 8129

Affiliation: Episode V-VI

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 815

Minifigures:

  1. General Veers

  2. AT-AT Pilot

  3. Snowtrooper (2)

  4. Luke Skywalker (Pilot)

  5. Han Solo

  6. C-3PO

  7. Rebel Hoth Trooper

The All Terrain Armored Transport was designed to instill terror into the enemy. It also captivated movie audiences and became one of the most iconic vehicles from the Empire Strikes Back. The AT-AT stood an impressive 22.5 meters tall, but LEGO only made their model a little over 12” tall.

This would be the third System Scale set of the Imperial Walker. The legs can be placed in different positions, to give the illusion of walking. The neck and guns can also be moved into different poses. Both sides of the body open to allow access to the troop platform. This area has seats for additional minifigures and room for weapons storage.

To give this impressive vehicle something to fight, the set also came with a Rebel turret. A platform on the back of the turret allowed a minifigure to move the gun up, down or rotate it around the base.

This set was prized by collectors. The Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and General Veers minifigures were exclusive to this set. Although widely available, some countries only had it at their local Toys "R" Us shops.

Cad Bane’s Speeder

Item #: 8128

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 318

Minifigures:

  1. Cad Bane

  2. Shahan Alama

  3. Elite Assassin Droid

  4. Senate Commando Captain

  5. Senate Commando

This set is based on Season 1, Episode 22 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Hostage Crisis would be the last episode of the season. The story had Cad Bane and a group of bounty hunters taking control of the Senate Building, in hopes of exchanging their hostages for crime lord Ziro.

This is not actually Cad Bane’s Speeder, but one of the airspeeder used to transport him and his attack party to the Senate Building. Since he needed a large raiding party, the model can fit six minifigures. The four back passenger seats are equipped with weapon holders. There is also a trunk in the back of the vehicle for additional storage. The speeder is armed with dual flick-fire missiles on both sides. These missiles also act as the headlights.

The box puts the age range from 7 to 12 years old, but LEGO.com claims you can be 8 to 14. Once you hit 15 years old, you are out of luck. Sorry! This special edition set was a Target exclusive. To make it even more of a collectable, the Senate Commando Captain and Shahan Alama minifigure were only available in this set.

Clone Turbo Tank

Item #: 8098

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 1,141

Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Clone Wars)

  2. Ahsoka Tano

  3. Aayla Secura

  4. Cad Bane

  5. Clone Trooper (2)

The Heavy Assault Vehicle/Wheeled A6 Juggernaut is a heavy assault tank that could carry personnel and smaller vehicles into battle, as well as effectively join in the fighting. The Clone Turbo Tank can carry 300 troops into the battlefield. It required 12 people to operate, but an automatic system could reduce that number to two.

Several Clone Turbo Tanks have been released since LEGO started their Star Wars Theme building sets and each time they get more and more detailed. This version has 10 wheels with pivoting axles, so that it can roll over small obstacles without getting stuck. It obviously had the automatic features, because it only fits two minifigure pilots. The two cockpits’ roofs can be opened to seat one minifigure each. The roof on the main body had two movable laser turrets. The engine is located near the center, behind two panels that open. The larger side doors can be opened to expose the inner compartment. This large area is used to store the Command Centre and Scout Walker included in the set. A retractable handle was incorporated into the design. It allows the tank to be picked up by the Dropship from the Republic Dropship With AT-OT Walker 10195 building set. If you do not own this other set, the handle can still be used to pick it up.

The Command Centre was designed for two minifigures. It has two sets of computer screens and levers. It’s small design allows it to fit comfortably in the Clone Turbo Tank and be portable in the battlefield.

The Scout Walker has a smaller design than previous models, so it could fit inside this model of the Clone Turbo Tank. It still has room for one minifigure to sit at the controls and the legs can be moved into different positions.

Droid Tri-Fighter

Item #: 8086
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7-12
Pieces: 268
Minifigures:

  1. Rocket Droid Commander

  2. Rocket Battle Droid (2)

The Droid Tri-Fighter was the Confederacy's answer to dogfights against the Republics starfighters. These fighters were not given a lot of gimmicks. They were fast, agile and packed with firepower. This model was equipped with flick-fire bombs. The ball of the ship could be opened and fit a Rocket Battle Droid minifigure inside. The Rocket Battle Droids were given jet packs and the Rocket Droid Commander was exclusive to this set.

General Grievous Starfighter

Item #: 8095

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 8-14

Pieces: 454

Minifigures:

  1. General Grievous (Clone Wars)

  2. Nahdar Vebb

  3. A4-D

The Soulless One was General Grievous' personal starfighter. It was a modified Belbullab-22 Starfighter. These vessels already had a powerful arsenal, but Grievous added an onboard Holonet transceiver and a hyperdrive to expand its reach around the galaxy.

This is the second time LEGO releases the Soulless 1, but they updated and added new features. The cockpit’s windshield can be slid open to seat one minifigure, but Grievous' two outer arms must be removed in order for him to fit inside. Two blaster cannons between the wings can be rotated to a completely vertical position. The wings have hidden hatches that each contain two armed flick-fire missiles. There is a larger missile located underneath the ship. The stabilizer wing in the back extends or retracts for either landing or flight mode. The inside compartment has a medical center, with a rotating chair for Grievous to be worked on. This is important, since he must remove two arms every time he flies the Soulless One.

Emperor Palpatine’s Shuttle

Item #: 8096

Affiliation: Episode III

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 592

Minifigures:

  1. Emperor Palpatine

  2. Anakin Skywalker (Wounded)

  3. Clone Pilot

  4. Medical Droid

This is not the Emperor's Shuttle. This is a modified Theta-Class T-2 shuttle used by the most powerful senators of the Republic. Chancellor Palpatine used this shuttle often, but Emperor Palpatine only used it briefly. As Emperor, his personal vehicle was a Lambada-Class Shuttle. This model represents the craft used to rescue Anakin from his battle with Obi-Wan on Mustafar.

Despite the naming problem, LEGO took the time to put a lot of interactive features into this model. The two large wings are able to be moved up or down manually, to simulate landing or flying. The landing gear can be raised or lowered independently of the wings. The window above the cockpit opens to fit one minifigure inside. The back of the ship lifts up to expose the main cabin. There you will find a medical bed to treat the mortally injured Anakin Skywalker. LEGO made it the transformation bed that changes Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. Builders can even tilt the table up, like they did in the “Frankenstein” scene of Episode III.

Freeco Speeder

Item #: 8085

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 177

Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Parka)

  2. Thi-Sen

This building set was based on Season 1, Episode 15 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. The episode was titled Trespass and had Anakin, Obi-Wan and a detachment of the 501st traveling to the planet Orto Plutonia to investigate the destruction of a Republic base. The CK-6 Swoop was designed for use on harsh icy planets like Orto Plutonia. The Freeco got its name by combining the words freezing and cold.

The model is very basic in its design and does not have a lot of interactive features. A hinge on the windshield allows access to the cockpit and there is a small storage compartment. The draw for this building set are its minifigures. Anakin Skywalker in Parka and Thi-Sen/Talz Chieftain are exclusive to this set.

Hoth Wampa Cave

Item #: 8089

Affiliation: Episode V

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 297

Minifigures:

  1. Luke Skywalker (Hoth)

  2. Wampa

  3. Zev Senesca

  4. Skeleton

The Wampa Cave attempts to recreate the cavern Luke was held prisoner by the Wampa. There is a spot to hang a Luke Skywalker minifigure upside down from the ceiling. His lightsaber can be placed below him and pushing a plate will launch it into the air, as if Luke is using the force to move it. For added detail, there is a skeleton, chicken leg and spine for the Wampa to chew on.

The building set also came with a Rebel Snowspeeder. At 7 inches long, it is almost the same length as the cave and very similar to a previous version released in 2007. The canopy can open fully to let the pilot and rear gunner into the cockpit, or the front half can open independently, only allowing the pilot inside. The most memorable feature of the Rebel Snowspeeder was the tow cable used to bring down the Imperial Walkers. The rear of this model has rotating blaster and winch. A TECHNIC gear allows a cord to be extended and retracted using the winch.

Imperial Star Destroyer Midi-Scale

Item #: 8099
Affiliation: Episodes IV-VI
Ages: 9-14
Pieces: 423
Minifigures: N/A

Star Wars fans were introduced to the Imperial Star Destroyer in the opening sequence of the very first Star Wars film. This immense ship chasing the smaller Blockade Runner let audience members know they were in store for an epic adventure. The impressive size of the Star Destroyer has also been one of the biggest challenges for toy makers. LEGO’s solution was to make it into a Midi-Scale building set. This allowed for more detail than a mini-building sets, but not take up the space of a full model. The Star Destroyer is a little over 10” long and 5” inches tall. It comes with a simple display stand, so builders can show their work and not sacrifice an entire shelf. It was sold in the US as a Special Edition set at Wal-Mart and LEGO Stores.

Luke’s Landspeeder

Item #: 8092

Affiliation: Episode IV

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 163

Minifigures:

  1. Luke Skywalker

  2. Ben Kenobi

  3. C-3PO (Dark Gold)

  4. R2-D2 (Grey Head)

  5. Sandtrooper (Black Pauldron)

  6. Sentry Droid

The X-34 Landspeeder was Luke Skywalker’s transportation while living on Tatooine. It was prominently featured in a New Hope, until Luke sold it to pay Han Solo to get him and his friends off the planet and past an Imperial blockade.

The model adds more detail in its design than previous versions. The top engine and the platform it rest on can be removed to reveal a small hidden compartment. If you wanted to smuggle lightsabers into the Mos Eisley Spaceport, you had to remove the blades for them to fit inside the compartment. This set is highly collectible. It was a limited edition and only available through Walmart and LEGO stores. The new Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi minifigure design could only be found in this set. The Sandtrooper was also made exclusive by giving him a new backpack and black pauldron.

Plo Koon’s Starfighter

Item #: 8093

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 175

Minifigures:

  1. Plo Koon

  2. R7-D4

Jedi Plo Koon flew a Delta 7-B Aethersprite-Class Light Interceptor. This fighter was given to Koon by Anakin and nicknamed the Blade of Dorin.

This set would add to LEGO's growing fleet of Jedi Interceptors. Koon's fighter is unique because of its blue coloring, which helped camouflage it in the sky. However, this would be the first Jedi Starfighter to come equipped with an ejection seat. A small tab underneath the ship can be pushed to eject the pilot from the cockpit. This building set would also include the first R7-D4 Astromech Droid minifigure.

Rebel Trooper Battle Pack

Item #: 8083

Affiliation: Episode V

Ages: 6-12

Pieces: 79

Minifigures:

  1. Zev Senesca

  2. Rebel Hoth Soldier (2)

  3. Rebel Officer

For the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, LEGO created a battle pack based on the Rebel soldiers stationed on Hoth. The set would include Zev Senesca, who found Luke and Han after they were stuck outside the inhospitable planet overnight, and three troopers dressed in their cold weather gear. The troopers were given newly designed helmets. The combat speeder was not seen in the film, but allowed LEGO to get around the Hasbro action figure exclusivity contract. This simple speeder was armed with two flick-fire missiles.

Republic Swamp Speeder

Item #: 8091

Affiliation: Episode III

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 176

Minifigures:

  1. Barriss Offee

  2. Clone Trooper

  3. Super Battle Droid

  4. Battle Droid (2)

The Infantry Support Platform was a repulsorlift speeder. It was utilized by the Republic during the Clone Wars for both combat and recon in swampy areas.

The Republic Swamp Speeder was a Limited Edition Toys "Я" Us and LEGO store exclusive.

The wheels underneath the vehicle were designed to limit their visibility and still have the ability to pivot. The large, rear, fan engine pivots with the vehicles. All this makes the model appear as if it is hovering above the ground. The flick-fire missile racks turn with the speeder, making sure the target stays within the line of fire.

Slave I

Item #: 8097

Affiliation: Episode V

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 573

Minifigures:

  1. Boba Fett

  2. Bossk

  3. Han Solo

  4. Han Solo Carbonite

LEGO has released five versions of Slave I, since they started their Star Wars Theme back in 1999. The heavily modified Firespray-31-Class Patrol and Attack Craft prototype has been a favorite among fans. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Episode V, LEGO would redesign the ship, as well as the Boba Fett, Bossk, Han Solo and Han Solo Carbonite minifigures.

Slave I's wings rotate with gravity, so they stay relatively parallel with the ground and simulate flying and landing maneuvers automatically. The ability for the cockpit to move independently from the rest of the ship allows the model to replicate Slave I's unique landing style. As a bounty hunter, Boba Fett had his shipped loaded with weapons. The four flick-fire missiles located in a hatch at the top of the ship and behind the cockpit are attached to a mechanism that allows them to be fired automatically. Two more flick-fire missiles are located behind small doors, on both sides of the back upper half of the ship. These will need to be fired by actually flicking them with your finger. The main blasters of Slave I are located behind the backdoors and can rotate. The cargo bay door opens to load the Han Solo in Carbonite minifigure. Unfortunately, this is all there is room for in the cargo hold. Boba Fett does have several smaller storage compartment on his ship.

The Han Solo Carbonite minifigure has been redesigned and significantly improved. It does a better job matching Han Solo from the movie. The mold also allows the Han Solo minifigure to be stored in back, as if he has been frozen.

Affiliation: Episode V

Ages: 6-12

Pieces: 74

Minifigures:

  1. Imperial Officer

  2. AT-AT Pilot

  3. Snowtrooper (2)

To give the Rebel Trooper Battle Pack something to fight, the Empire was given its own Battle Pack. The minifigures are all character involved in the battle of Hoth, but the vehicles and equipment were not the movie. The Battle Station is a flat plate with a scanning satellite and flick-fire missile launcher. The missile launcher can rotate a full 360 degrees. The set also included a small white speeder bike. The speeder was a very simple design and similar to the speeder used in Return of the Jedi.

Affiliation: Expanded Universe

Ages: 8-14

Pieces: 304

Minifigures:

  1. TIE Pilot

  2. Stormtrooper

The TIE Defender was not as dependent on flying with large squadrons or a capital ship. These fighters were equipped with shields, hyperdrive, four laser cannons, two ion cannons and two warhead launchers.

This would be the first TIE Defender created by LEGO. Its firepower was replicated by placing two flick-fire missiles on each of its three wings. The cockpit of the vehicle can be rotated and a minifigure fits inside.

LEGO wanted to make sure the upper ranks of the Empire were not stranded. This was the third model of an Imperial Shuttle released in 2010. Unlike the standard and mini building sets, this one was designed to minifigure scale. This scale has the model standing 28 inches tall, with a wingspan of 22 inches. The size allowed many authentic details to be incorporated into its design. The canopy opens, giving access to the four-seat cockpit. The double cannons on both wings could rotate. Two removable keys on the rear of the vehicle raised or lowered the wings for flight mode or landing. The model could be displayed by attaching the landing gear, or if you preferred the flying look, the set came with a display stand.

Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter

Item #: 10215
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 14+
Pieces: 676
Minifigures: N/A

Obi-Wan's Delta-7 is not to minifigure scale, but is still an impressive 18 inches long, 9 inches wide and 9 inches high. The canopy can only be opened if you pull it off. However, the seat, controls, and viewscreen are amazingly detailed. Blue flames were used to give the appearance of the ship swiftly flying through the air. The R4-P17 was scaled to the vehicle, making it the first astromech droid to not be a minifigure in an Ultimate Collector's Series model. The R4-P17's dome head was still able to rotate.

Promotional Minifigures

The promotional minifigures this year would feature special coloring. This made them standout from other minifigures of the same characters.

White Boba Fett

Affiliation: Episode V-VI
Ages: 6+
Pieces: 5
Minifigures:

  1. Boba Fett (White)

The White Boba Fett was given away for several promotional events around the world. It used an older mold of Boba Fett, that had the helmet and backpack as a single piece. The predominant use of white plastic caused a minimal inclusion of details in the design.
