LEGO Star Wars 2011

Updated on December 18, 2014

The 2011 wave of LEGO Star Wars building sets would be based on all six films and the new Clone Wars animated television series. There was a heavy emphasis on season two of the cartoon.

Anakin Skywalker & Sebulba’s Podracers

Item #: 7962

Affiliation: Episode I

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 808

Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Boy)

  2. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Padawan)

  3. Sebulba

  4. Wald

  5. Watto

The Boonta Eva Classic Podrace was a major sequence in the Phantom Menace. While LEGO designed a lot of podracers in the beginning of the Star Wars theme, they had not released any new sets in several years. For their reintroduction, the vehicles would be given more realistic details. The biggest improvement was the use of clear TECHNIC beams to connect the cockpits and engines, creating the illusion of being completely separate parts. Clear TECHNIC beams could also be attached to a sand colored block underneath. This doubled as a display stand and to give the appearance of the models hovering in the air. With both podracers measuring over 13 inches long, more details were added to better match the film. Sebulba's racer had a few extra interactive features. Its large engines could spin and it was armed with extending buzz saws. All the minifigures in this set were either completely redesigned or released for the first time.

Battle For Geonosis

Item #: 7869
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 8-14
Pieces: 331
Minifigures:

  1. Captain Rex

  2. Luminara Unduli

  3. Super Battle Droid

  4. Battle Droid (2)

The two models in the set, represent both sides found in the Landing At Point Rain episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The season 2, episode 5 story revolved around the Republic attempting to destroy Poggle the Lesser's droid factory.

The Biker Advanced Recon Commando Speeder was used as a reconnaissance vehicle for the Grand Army of the Republic. This BARC speeder is almost exactly the same as one released in the Clone Trooper Battle Pack 7913. They simply replaced the green stripe with a dark red one.

The Separatist Proton Cannon fits one pilot and has lots of articulation. The four legs are able move both side to side and up or down. This helped with balancing on uneven surfaces. A missile can be fired from the spring loaded cannon.

Battle of Naboo

Item #: 7929

Affiliation: Episode I

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 241

Minifigures:

  1. Jar Jar Binks

  2. Gungan Soldier

  3. Pilot Battle Droid (2)

  4. Battle Droid (8)

The Battle of Naboo was the first epic battle seen by fans in the prequel. What made it inspiring was the sheer number of battle droids deployed. The Battle Droid Carrier in this set transports eight battle droids and two pilots. The droid rack on the back can be easily removed from the vehicle.

The heroes fighting the battle droid squadron is Jar Jar Binks and a Gungan warrior. These minifigures have been redesigned since their last appearance in 1999. They were also given new transparent energy shields.

Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship

Item #: 7930
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 8-14
Pieces: 389
Minifigures:

  1. Aurra Sing

  2. Embo

  3. Sugi

  4. Elite Assassin Droid

The Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship model is more specifically Halo from the season 2, episode 17 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. The story, Bounty Hunters, had Obi-Wan, Anakin & Ahsoka team up with the bounty hunters Sugi and Embo, to stop Hondo Ohnaka and his pirate gang from attacking the local farmers on the planet Felucia.

Although Halo measures 11" wide, 10" long and 6" tall, the hull is about 6 studs short of being to scale. The model is still packed with fun details. The engines can rotate for flight or landing mode and it features 3 doors. The top of the cabin flips up allowing access to the cockpit, the side swings open to reveal the lower prison deck and the rear has a small door for hiding smaller objects.

This would be the first set to have the Embo, Sugi and Aurra Sing minifigures. The box says the droid is an Elite Assassin Droid, but LEGO.com named it IG-86.

Clone Trooper Battle Pack

Item #: 7913

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 6-12

Pieces: 85

Minifigures:

  1. Clone Trooper Commander

  2. ARF Trooper

  3. Bomb Squad Trooper (2)

This would be the third Battle Pack building set released featuring the Clone Trooper minifigures. However, all the Clone Troopers had their helmets redesigned causing them to either be exclusive to this set or making their first appearance. Most of these changes were minor, but the ARF Trooper's helmet used a completely new mold.

The vehicle in this set is the BARC Speeder. Since Battle Packs focus on minifigures, the speeder is very basic in its design. This was the same model found in Battle For Geonosis 7869, but with a green stripe. LEGO.com accidentally claimed the set had a rotating cannon turret, but they were mistakenly referring to the Mandalorian Battle Pack.

Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator

Item #: 7961
Affiliation: Episode I
Ages: 6-14
Pieces: 479
Minifigures:

  1. Darth Maul

  2. Qui-Gon Jinn

  3. Padme Naberrie

  4. Captain Panaka

  5. Sith Probe Droid (2)

This would be the third standard sized building set of Darth Maul's Scimitar Stealth ship. The vehicle’s wings can be moved into different positions, is armed with two flick-fire missiles and has functional landing gear. The roof of the Sith Infiltrator raises to reveal the detailed interior of the ship. The back hatch of the ship can also be raised to release the two Sith Probe Droids and Darth Maul’s Sith speeder.

To give Darth Maul someone to hunt, the set comes with Qui-Gon Jinn, Padme Naberrie and Captain Panaka. This was the first time Padme was given flesh colored skin and the first time Captain Panaka was released as a minifigure.

Ewok Attack

Item #: 7956
Affiliation: Episode VI
Ages: 6-14
Pieces: 166
Minifigures:

  1. Tokkat

  2. Logray

  3. Scout Trooper

This is the second set named Ewok Attack, but it is not a remake of the 2002 building set. The main model is a tree hideout. It was designed with many of the traps seen in Return of the Jedi. A retractable ladder allows the Ewoks to reach the canopy of the tree, without being followed. The treetop has a catapult that launches 1X1 cylinder pieces. The cylinders are used to represent boulders. A TECHNIC log can be dropped from above by lifting up on a handle. The trunk of the tree swings open to reveal even more contraptions inside. A secret compartment allows an Ewok to hide and wait to spring his trap. A log can be slid in and out of the trunk to smash passing enemies. The unlucky Imperial opponent to this ambush is a lone scout trooper on his speeder bike. This was the first time the Ewoks Tokkat and Logray were released as minifigures.

Geonosian Starfighter

Item #: 7959

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 155

Minifigures:

  1. Geonosian Pilot

  2. Commander Cody

  3. Ki-Adi-Mundi

The Nantex-Class Territorial Defense Starfighter was used by the Geonosians for planetary defense and ideal for navigating the asteroid field near their planet.

A previous Geonosian Starfighter building set was released in 2003. However, it was based on the Star Wars: Episode II movie, while this set was inspired by Landing at Point Rain, the same episode for building set 7869 Battle For Geonosis. The top of the Geonosian Starfighter has an opening cockpit that seats one minifigure. An engine is located beneath the cockpit and has a slight range of motion. The fighter is armed with a large laser cannon capable of turning 180 degrees and proton torpedoes underneath its nose.

Hoth Echo Base

Item #: 7879

Affiliation: Episode V

Ages: 8-14

Pieces: 773

Minifigures:

  1. Han Solo (Hoth Parka)

  2. Chewbacca

  3. Princess Leia (Hoth)

  4. Luke Skywalker (Bacta)

  5. Medical Droid

  6. R-3PO

  7. Snowtrooper (2)

The ice planet Hoth set the stage for the desperate times ahead of the Rebel Alliance in The Empire Strikes Back. The first encounter between Rebel and Imperial forces has the Rebels desperately trying to evacuate Echo Base before the Empire destroys it.

Unfolding 21" wide and standing 5" tall, this would be the largest model of Echo Base released by LEGO. The center of the base has two spinning radar dishes. Over the main entrance are two guns turrets, each augmented with a pair of flick-fire missiles. If advance weapons don't work, there is also an icicle trap. Next to the main entrance is a tauntaun stable. The stable's gate can be locked to prevent the tauntaun from running away. The other side of the base contains several locations from the movie in one room. A medical station has an examination chair and Bacta Tank. There is a small armory with a weapon rack beside the medical bay. The last section of the room in the command center. A catwalk allows minifigures to walk above one side of the base. A working cargo crane slides along the bottom of the catwalk. The two snowtroopers attacking the base are armed with a small speeder and an E-Webb cannon.

Imperial V-Wing Starfighter

Item #: 7915
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7-12
Pieces: 139
Minifigures:

  1. Imperial Pilot

  2. R2-Q2

The Alpha-3 Nimbus-Class V-Wing Starfighter was deployed near the end of the Clone Wars and was used heavily by the Empire, until it was replaced by the TIE Fighter. This was the second V-Wing building set released by LEGO. The first model was in the Republic's red color scheme, while this model uses the Empire's black coloring. The ship comes with the standard opening cockpit and rotating wings. This would be the first set to include the R2-Q2 astromech droid. However, only its dome can be attached to the V-Wing, because there is no socket to fit the entire droid minifigure.

Mace Windu’s Jedi Fighter

Item #: 7868

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 7-12

Pieces: 313

Minifigures:

  1. Mace Windu

  2. R8-B7

  3. TX-20 Tactical Droid

  4. Battle Droid (2)

This building set included four vehicles. The main model is Mace Windu's Delta-7 Aethersprite-Class Light Interceptor. Although it is very similar in appearance to the fleet of Jedi Starfighters LEGO has released, its wings were attached using a different technique, making them more stable than past models. It was also uniquely armed with four flick-fire missiles on its belly. The missiles can be fired two at a time by pressing the bars in the back. The fighter still has the opening cockpit and working landing gear found in the other Jedi Starfighter models.

The Separatist droid army has two STAP fighters and a Tactical Droid Speeder. The two Single Trooper Aerial Platforms were very basic in their design. The transparent pieces on the bottom help the model balance and appear as if they are flying. A sticker is used to identify them as belonging to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Flitknot Speeder was one of the few vehicles that a Non-Geonosian could pilot without requiring heavy modifications. Count Dooku was seen driving one as he fled the Battle of Geonosis in Episode II. The speeder had few interactive features, but this was the first set to include the TX-20 Tactical Droid. Mace Windu’s R8-B7 Droid also made its minifigure debut in this set.

Mandalorian Battle Pack

Item #: 7914
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 6-12
Pieces: 68
Minifigures:

  1. Mandalorian (4)

The Mandalorians are a nomadic culture that developed their society around fighting. Wars and battles are an important parts of their lives. The four Mandalorian minifigures in this battle pack look the same, but are armed with different weapons. They have a blaster, two blaster pistols, a blaster rifle and a tripod-mounted sniper rifle. Whoever gets the sniper rifle is considered a Mandalorian Assassin.

The building set needs something to build, so it also included two models. The Balutar-Class Swoop was simple in its design, but has enough room to comfortably seat a Mandalorian minifigures and his jet pack. To create the illusion of the speeder hovering above the ground, the model has a round transparent brick at its base. To give the Mandalorians even more firepower, you can also build a gun turret. The gun can rotate and is mounted high enough for a minifigure to operate it from the standing position.

Millennium Falcon

Item #: 7965

Affiliation: Episode IV-VI

Ages: 9-14

Pieces: 1,254

Minifigures:

  1. Han Solo

  2. Chewbacca

  3. Ben Kenobi

  4. Luke Skywalker

  5. Princess Leia

  6. Darth Vader

  7. Training Remote

The Millennium Falcon played a critical role in defeating the Empire and helped destroy both of Death Stars. This would be the sixth model of the Millennium Falcon. The set was based on the escape from the first Death Star, while Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader engage in their final duel.

The top of the Millennium Falcon has a rotating radar dish and a gun turret capable of turning 360 degrees. Rather than having a small gun under the ship, it was armed with four flick-fire missiles. The roof consisted of 12 long slanting tiles that folded up separately to expose the detailed interior. Directly beneath the gun turret is a seat for a minifigure to operate the main gun. There are two computer chairs next to the gun turret, in the middle of the ship. The front section of the ship, opposite from the cockpit, is where you will find the Dejarik board. This is often put in the back of the Hasbro toy models, but it’s still a good idea to let the Wookie win. Past this is the secret floor compartment used to smuggle goods and people past Imperial blockades. This secret compartment can be dropped out of the ship. When the roof is up, it is easier to have minifigures use the boarding ramp. The cockpit canopy must be removed separately, in order to seat any minifigures inside.

Naboo Starfighter

Item #: 7877

Affiliation: Episode I

Ages: 7-14

Pieces: 318

Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (boy)

  2. Naboo Fighter Pilot

  3. R2-D2

  4. Security Battle Droid (2)

  5. Droideka

The handcuffs for the Naboo Fighter Pilot, two Battle Droids and a redesigned Droideka show this set is based on Anakin escaping the hangar at the end of The Phantom Menace.

The N-1T Advanced Starfighter model was similar to the one released in the Naboo N-1 Starfighter and Vulture Droid 7660 building set, but did have a few updates made in its design. The model has a working canopy and R2-D2 can be launched from his socket. It was armed with flick-fire missiles located on the underbelly of the ship. To help Anakin board the fighter, the set comes with a service vehicle. The cart has an access ladder to reach the high cockpit, a flick-fire missile rack to rearm the ship and a tool chest for last minute repairs.

Item #: 7964
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 9-14
Pieces: 1,015
Minifigures:

  1. Yoda

  2. Commander Wolffe

  3. Clone Trooper Wolfpack

  4. Quinlan Vos

  5. Eeth Koth

The Consular-Class Cruiser was originally used for transporting Jedi and Republic diplomats across the galaxy. They were modified with stronger weapons and given a new paint job to be used in combat during the Clone Wars. This was the first military version of the cruiser released by LEGO, but a diplomatic version was sold back in 2007. To better track their targets, the laser cannons on the side of the ship can move in different directions. The ship has four functioning landing gear legs. To have the ship fly through the air, a technic beam was placed in the center and used as a handle. Underneath the front nose of the ship is an escape pod. The roof of the cockpit flips back to let a minifigure sit at the controls. Two rooms on the sides, near the middle of the ship, can both be accesses by folding the roof above them up. The room on the right has a hologram of chancellor Palpatine and is the same hologram used in the Super Star Destroyer Ultimate Collector's Series. There is also computer showing where the ship has sustained damage. The left room of the ship is for the equipment to bomb the enemy is stored.

Item #: 7957
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 6-14
Pieces: 213
Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker

  2. Savage Opress

  3. Asajj Ventress

The Sith Nightspeeder is named the Dathomir Speeder outside North America, but has the same 7957 item number. This is actually a model of the Ubrikkian Speeder used by the Nightsisters on the planet Dathomir.

The speeder can carry one pilot and one passenger. However, two speeders can separate from the main body and fly independently. This allows it to effectively double its attack force. The vehicle is armed with two flick-fire missiles. This is the first appearance of Savage Opress as a minifigure.

T-6 Jedi Shuttle

Item #: 7931

Affiliation: Clone Wars

Ages: 8-14

Pieces: 389

Minifigures:

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Clone Wars)

  2. Anakin Skywalker (Clone Wars)

  3. Shaak Ti

  4. Saesee Tiin

The T-6 Shuttle was more commonly known as the Jedi Ambassador Shuttle, because of their use transporting Jedi during the Clone Wars. It was first seen in the second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

The model uses a gear behind the cockpit to rotate the wings between flight and landing mode. A small TECHNIC piece allows the landing gear to be deployed. In the Star Wars universe, the T-6 Shuttle does not have weapons, but LEGO added flick-fire missiles that are launched by pushing the engines. Two minifigures can fit in the cockpit by removing the canopy. The entire cockpit can be detached and double as an escape pod. This set contains the first Shaak Ti minifigure.

The Armored Assault Tank was used by the Trade Federation and Confederacy of independent Systems. These repulsor tanks were heavily armored in the front and capable of smashing through walls and other obstacles in their path.

As a mini building set, the model is very basic in its design, but LEGO still made sure to pay attention to the details in its appearance. The large large half-circle base and large cannon on top did an amazing job of matching the vehicle seen in Episode 1.

Droid Fighter

Item #: 30055
Affiliation: Episode II
Ages: 6-12
Pieces: 36
Minifigures: N/A

The Vulture Droid had no pilot, but used a droid brain connected to a droid control ship. To replicate the machines ability to switch between walking and flying mode, the wings/legs were able to move into the correct position and the head/cockpit could tilt backwards. This set was released in Toys "Я" Us stores during September and came free with the Saturday, December 3rd edition of the Sun newspaper.

Slave I

Item #: 20019
Affiliation: Episode V
Ages: 7+
Pieces: 76
Minifigures: N/A

There have been a lot of Slave 1 LEGO models over the years. If you include bag charms, this is the 8th Slave I. To make this one special, it came exclusively with the January 2011 Brickmaster LEGO Club catalogue. The use of green pieces show us this is Boba Fett's ship and not his "father's".

Vector Class Republic Attack Cruiser

Item #: 30053
Affiliation: Episode II
Ages: 6-12
Pieces: 41
Minifigures: N/A

The flagship of the Republic fleet measures 1,137 meters long and is capable of carrying several squadrons of starfighter into combat zones. The mini building set scale of this ship are more practical for builders who don't have a lot of space, money or time. Maybe that’s why this is the second mini scale LEGO has made of the Vector-Class Republic Cruiser. It came free with the October 8th issue of The Sun newspaper.

X-Wing

Item #: 30051
Affiliation: Episodes IV-VI
Ages: N/A
Pieces: 61
Minifigures: N/A

This X-Wing was packaged as a Clone Wars set, but they were the main starfighters of the Rebel Alliance and not operational during the time of the Old Republic.

Despite the model's small size, its wings are able to open into the famous X shaped attack position. Since an Astromech Droid minifigure can't fit in a droid socket behind the cockpit, a small grey stud is used to represent the droid. This model was released three times as a promotional building set. It first appeared as an Easter promotion for Target in March of 2010, then Walmart would use it as a promotion in March of 2011, and finally it was included in May 14th issue of the Sun newspaper.

Ultimate Collector's Series

LEGO typically released two UCS Star Wars building sets each year. However, this year they would only design one of these highly detailed and extremely large models.

Super Star Destroyer

Item #: 10221
Affiliation: Episodes V
Ages: 16+
Pieces: 3,152
Minifigures:

  1. Darth Vader

  2. Admiral Piett

  3. Bossk

  4. Dengar

  5. IG-88

The Executor was Darth Vader's personal flagship. The 19 km Super Star Destroyer dwarfed the already intimidating Imperial Class Star Destroyer. This model is based on the scene from Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader hires bounty hunters to find the Millennium Falcon, after it escaped in the asteroid field.

To recreate the awesome size of the actual ship, LEGO made this the longest Star Wars model ever released. It measures almost 50 inches long and weighs close to 8 lbs. To highlight its scale within the Star Wars universe, the set includes a mini Imperial Star Destroyer built to scale with the Executor. Like most UCS, it has a display stand and data sheet. The center section can be removed to show a detailed command center. This is where the bounty hunters can be given their assignment. Most of the minifigures were redesigned for this set and Admiral Piett would make his first appearance.

Promotional Minifigures

Minifigures have become popular collector items. Their small size and fun details make them easy to store or display. LEGO now likes to use their minifigures as promotional items to draw customers and advertise upcoming sets.

Shadow ARF Trooper

Item #:2856197
Affiliation: Clone Wars
Ages: 6+
Pieces: 5
Minifigures:

  1. Shadow ARF Trooper

The Advance Recon Force Troopers were trained for short range reconnaissance missions for the Grand Republic Army. The Shadow ARF Trooper minifigure was created using standard pieces, but colored black.

This set was given away for LEGO's "May the Fourth be with you" celebration. They proved to be extremely popular. The promotion was supposed to last from May 3rd to 4th, but many shops ran out of the minifigures on the first day. The set was to be included with a minimum purchase of LEGO Star Wars set. However, several shops made a mistake in their requirements. The German LEGO store allowed the minimum €50 be spent on any theme and Hungary accidentally set the minimum Star Wars purchase at HUF 1400 or $7.50 in US dollars.

Wow, this is an intense amount of detail! I never really got into Legos the way some kids did, and I only kind of liked Star Wars. I guess I was a weird kid.

I LOVE the Super Star Destroyer. If only I had an unlimited supply of money and space. Thanks for commenting.
