LEGO Star Wars Christmas: 8014 Clone Troopers With Clone Walker Battle Pack
Lego Star Wars 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack
The Lego Star Wars 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack features the cheapest walker ever in the Star Wars Universe, and 4 minifigures. The Clone Walker itself is an open cockpit bipedal walker which can hold two minifigs. It has a front repeating blaster cannon, and flick-fired missile launchers at its sides. As its low cost open cockpit design means that its 2 troopers are mostly unprotected, its mainly deployed for recon, and light combat work against opposing infantry.
The Lego 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack contains 72 pieces and has 4 minifigs. It is made up of the mini walker itself, and 4 minifigs, all of them Clone Troopers, which includes a Clone Commander, a Clone Gunner, and 2 regular Clone Troopers.
The Clone Walker
The walker itself, is nothing to shout about, as it is a mini version of an AT-ST biped chicken walker, which in turn is a mini version of an AT-AT quadruped doggie walker. Sort of like a micro walker. The walker's legs are well articulated, which while poseable, has some stability problems. No worries, though, as it is playable. It is armed with 2 flick-fire missiles on either side, and a blaster cannon at the front. But strangely, it has no controls, so perhaps it operated on mind control. That, or LEGO think we do not care about the little details! This son of a chicken walker is finished in Imperial grey, with a smattering of green colored parts.
Not everyone will buy this for the bipedal walker as this is a battle pack, produced cheaply with many minifigs so that people will buy as many as needed to build their army. Most people will buy this for the minifigures, and then salvage the walker for parts.
-Features the Clone Walker, a tough 2-man vehicle with poseable legs and flick-firing missiles
-Includes 4 Clone Troopers, ie Clone Commander with ARC trooper gear, Clone Gunner, and 2 regular Clone Troopers
-Measures over 3.5" tall
-Contains 72 pieces
Description: Clone Walker Battle Pack
Lego No: 8014
Theme: Clone Wars
Minifigs: 4; Clone Commander with ARC trooper gear, Clone Gunner, and 2 Clone Troopers
Price: US $11.99
Time to Build: ?
This set has only Clone Trooper minifigs, and the 4 minifigures: the Clone Commander, Clone Gunner, and the 2 regular Clone Troopers are the highlight of the set here as most people will be buying this set to get their hands on them, to build their Clone army.
The Clone Commander is actually
a normal clone, with added new black ARC gear which includes the pauldron (shoulder
armor), leg armor, visor, headlights, and rangefinders.
While all the extra armor ensures that he can survive a few hits in the Star Wars Universe, in the real world, he appears bulky, and he can't bend his leg to sit down, or to raise his arms properly. Luckily, he can still take the occasional pee if he needs to. ;)
The good news is, all these extra gear pieces are removable. If you remove all his gear, he will become a normal clone save for his 2 blaster pistols.
The Clone Gunner wears a gold helmet, decorated with Republic emblems, and has a different torso design compared to the other clones. He is also equipped with the standard blaster rifle that the other clones carry.
The 2 regular Clone Troopers are nothing special but if you want to build your army with these guys than you will absolutely adore them as you can't get enough of these guys.
Q: How To Build An Army With This?
A: As it is a cheap set with 4 minifigs, if you are amassing a Clone Army, you will want to get multiple sets. The best part is that your Clone Army will have an army of Clone Walkers!
You will want to also get hold of these sets:
-8015 Assassin Droids Battle Pack, 5 Assassin Droids
-8018 Armored Assault Tank, which has 2 Battle Droids and 3 Super Battle Droids with rocket launcher arms, plus Yoda and a Clone Trooper. At US 49.99, this is not an army builder set.
-7654 Droids Battle Pack 4 Battle Droids and 3 Super Battle Droids
-7655 Clone Troopers Battle Pack Clone Trooper Commander, Clone Shocktrooper, and 2 Clone Troopers
Q: So what do I do with the multiple walkers if I don't like them?
A: You can sell them at an online auction, or you can get creative and use its parts to build other vehicles. It's parts are great, for example, you easily get some extra flick-firing missiles which you can use to concoct a new vehicle from other brick sets.
Q: How to get more clones?
A: Demote the commander by removing his add-on gear, and you will have another Clone Trooper. He will have only 2 pistols, sure, but you can always get creative and borrow weapons from elsewhere or you can make the Gunner the commander, and give his gun to the newly created Trooper. As always, LEGO is a toy where you can get creative in a myriad of ways.
Pros And Cons
-Really good army builder set
-Loaded with weapons, 5 weapons for 4 troopers; even the driver has one
-Great for parts
-Poseable walker legs
-Stickers, they should be made obsolete by now
-Flick-fire missiles do not always work well
-Not sure why there is green color in the walker, is this suppose to match something?
-No control panel for walker
-Walker though poseable, is not stable when posed
-Commander can't sit down, and is bulky due to the ARC gear
I am pretty sure the walker is not official Star Wars Universe canon, but whoever came up with this deserves praise. Children and parents who desire the AT-ST but can't get it because of budget, etc can now be happy come the Christmas holidays, because they now have an affordable walker that they can bring home with them.
However, if you're buying it for the micro walker, know that the most valuable pieces in this set are the minifigs which most people will use to build a Clone army.
Despite the cons mentioned, this is still a great set, and is highly recommended when you want build a Clone army in your quest for world domination.
