LeapFrog My Pal Scout Review - Learning Toys & Games

Updated on May 23, 2011

My Pal Scout is a Must-Own Toy!

We have bought quite a few learning toys for our daughter this past year. Most of the time, the box the toy comes in gets much more attention than its contents. Not long after the purchase, the toy finds its way to a corner of the playroom never to be seen or heard from again.

However, the one toy that still gets played with after months since we bought it is My Pal Scout by Leap Frog.

The Leap Frog My Pal Scout looks like a typical stuffed animal, but unlike most stuffed animals, this toy says your child's name and sings songs about their favorite things. It's pretty cool.

Setup is Simple

It is very easy to set up the toy, unlike some that require manuals, screwdrivers and Aspirin.

You simply plug the included USB cord into the back of My Pal Scout and then into your Mac or PC computer. Then a screen should appear on your desktop from Leap Frog that will instruct you on how to create an account and register your toy (this is all free of charge).

Once you have created an account, you are all set to customize My Pal Scout for your child.

You can enter your child's name (Leap Frog provides a long list, so you shouldn't have a problem finding yours) as well as their favorite food, animal and color.

There are also 30 songs to choose from and you can go back onto the Leap Frog site at anytime to update your choices, so the toy is like new whenever you want.

What Does My Pal Scout Do?

As soon as you have entered all your information, a brief loading period occurs, and then My Pal Scout remembers everything and incorporates it into it's songs and phrases.

So, you may hear your child's name or favorite color in the middle of a song or My Pal Scout might say his favorite food, which is of course the same favorite food as your child's.

The right paw on My Pal Scout says fun phrases, the left paw plays songs and the right foot plays bedtime music to soothe your little one to sleep.

The toy combines education and entertainment and the songs and phrases teach about numbers, animals, daily routines and first words.

Details:

  • Recommended for ages 6 - 36 months
  • Requires internet connection
  • Requires 3"AA" batteries (not included)

Price:

The best part about the Leap Frog My Pal Scout toy just might be the price. For such a cool toy, it really isn't that expensive. Most online retailers sell My Pal Scout for somewhere between $16-$20. Compared to a lot of toys on the market, this Leap Frog toy is an absolute steal for parents.

Personal Experience:

My wife and I bought the My Pal Violet version of the toy which is intended for little girls. It has been our daughter's best friend ever since. My Pal Violet comes on almost every car trip and stays with our daughter on overnights at Grandma and Grandpa's house. The batteries seem to hold up pretty well as we have only had to change them once over the last five months and My Pal Violet still sounds brand new.

Buy My Pal Scout Today!

My Pal Scout is available all over the internet. You can buy the toy at the Leap Frog Website, Target, Wal-Mart, Toys 'R Us and on the Amazon links above.

With Christmas just around the corner and birthdays not far away, Leap Frog My Pal Scout is the perfect playmate for your little boy or girl.

It is a great toy and we have now owned Violet for almost a year and she still gets played with on a regular basis.

My daughter received my pal Violet for Christmas last year, and she loves it. We programmed it to say her name and sing songs about her, etc. It's a really fun interactive stuffed animal.
