Legalizing Marijuana and Medical Marijuana
Should Marijuana Be Legal
I believe Marijuana should be legalized in the United States. The government would be able to tax it like cigarettes and alcohol. This would help get the United States out of there debt. Fifty percent of Americans think Marijuana should be legalized.
Marijuana incriminates many non violent people a year just for possession. Should people be put in jail for smoking marijuana? This congests our jails with more people and generally leads to higher costs. Not only could the government be making money off of taxing marijuana but they could be saving jail costs also.
Marijuana is no worse than alcohol. People are more functional on marijuana than alcohol. I'm not saying that everyone who smokes should drive a car, but you don't see many marijuana people getting violent. Marijuana was banned a long time ago because alcohol companies didn't want to lose money so marijuana was given a bad name.
Marijuana for medical purposes is legal in thirteen states. Medical facilities already get taxed by state and federal. They provide medicine to many people who need it. For example patients with cancer use it to reduce nausea, and pain.
Hemp which comes from marijuana can be used to make a vast number of things. For food it supplies an edible oil that contains about 80% essential fatty acids. Hemp Seed also contains about 20% of a highly-digestible protein when compared to more common sources of proteins such as meat, milk, and eggs. Hemp also produces 250% for fiber than cotton and can be used to make paper and clothing. It is stronger than a lot of materials. It can also be used for strengthening concrete. Also, it can be used to make a fuel source.
Hemp is not legal in the United States because marijuana is not legal. Hopefully in the future we will be able to use this great natural resource.
