Lego Star Wars 2005

Updated on March 7, 2014

Released the same year as Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith, this batch of LEGO Star Wars would incorporate many new vehicles and scenes from the final chapter of the Star Wars Prequels. With so many pivotal scenes influencing the Star Wars Universe occurring in Episode 3, it should come as no surprise that LEGO would focus more heavily on scenes than they have in years past.

ARC-170 Fighter

Item #: 7259
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 8+
Pieces: 396
Minifigures:

  1. Clone Pilot (3)
  2. R4-D5

The Aggressive Reconnaissance 170 Starfighter was simply known as the ARC-170. This predecessor of the Rebel Alliance’s famous X-Wing fighter was used heavily near the end of the Clone Wars. With its versatility as a fighter and bomber, the ARC-170 saw a lot of action. Similar to the X-Wing, the ARC-170 also has opening and closing wings. This model would be one of the first to use a gear system, that would become very popular in its use in later constructions. The minifigures from this set are a topic of major discussion; the Clone Troopers were a closer resemblance to the animate television show than the movie, and the box had R4-D5 labeled R4-P17. Star Wars fans know that R4-P17 was Obi-Wan’s personal astromech droid for his Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor. Major oversight on the part of LEGO.

Clone Scout Walker

Item #: 7250
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7+
Pieces: 108
Minifigures:

  1. Clone Recon Trooper

This Lego set lets people build the All Terrain Recon Transport (AT-RT). The forerunner to the Imperial AT-ST, these vehicles were lightly armored and left the drive exposed, but it was quick and cheap to produce. The legs had three joints that could be posed in different walking positions. The controls and front of the vehicle were specially designed for this model, so it would resemble the walkers that appeared in the film. This would be the first Clone Recon Trooper minifigure to be released.

Clone Turbo Tank

Item #: 7261
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 9+
Pieces: 801
Minifigures:

  1. Mace Windu (Light-Up Lightsaber)
  2. Star Corps Trooper
  3. Clone Trooper
  4. Clone Aerial Trooper
  5. Clone Scout Trooper
  6. Battle Droids (2)

The HAV/w A6 Juggernaut was a monster tank utilized throughout most of the Clone War. The Clone Turbo Tank required 12 pilots but the LEGO set only had one minifigure for the front cockpit and two figures in the rear. There was also a side door for more minifigures to be carried along into battle. A lookout can be raised and lowered to get a better view of the battle, but this leaves your minifigure exposed to laser fire. Along with this intimidating tank, you could also build a Biker Advanced Recon Commando Speeder (BARC) and an E-Web Turret. This set goes a long way in creating your own epic battle sequence. However the Mace Windu minifigure has a light-up lightsaber and does not come apart, which limits your tragic death scene options.

Item #: 7251
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 6+
Pieces: 53
Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Burned)
  2. Darth Vader (No Cape)
  3. FX-9 Surgical Assistant Droid

This building set recreates the climactic scene when Dr. Frankenstein brings his monster to life. Wait...this is the scene where Anakin Skywalker is turned into the Mechanical Darth Vader, who must wear his life support suit in order to survive. A turntable underneath the operating table allows you to switch between the two minifigures instantly. This was the first set to include a Darth Vader minifigure without his cape and the first time a burnt Anakin Skywalker minifigure was released.

Item #: 7252
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7+
Pieces: 148
Minifigures:

  1. Buzz Droid

This fast and maneuverable fighter was used heavily by the Confederacy near the end of the Clone War. Special bricks were used to create the curved section of the spacecraft. Pilots were not needed for the Tri-Fighter, but the model uses the transparent ball in the center to store a Buzz Droid. However, these ships actually carried the Buzz Droids in a missile located underneath the vessel. This would be the first set to include a Buzz Droid.

Item #: 7255
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7+
Pieces: 111
Minifigures:

  1. General Grievous
  2. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Although this is a standard LEGO building set, Grievous’ Tsmeu-6 Personal Wheel Bike used Technic and drill pieces. It wouldn’t be a chase if the set did not include General Kenobi and his Boga. With both of these modes of transportation able to travel over almost any terrain, you can create a fun action sequence. This would be the first set to contain a General Grievous minifigure and the only one to include his cape.

Ages: 8+
Pieces: 367
Minifigures:

  1. Emperor Palpatine
  2. Darth Vader
  3. Royal Guard (2)
  4. Stormtrooper (4)
  5. Imperial Officer (2)

This set is all about the minifigures. With 10 minifigures you are well on your way to creating your own LEGO Galactic Empire. This would be the first set to have the grey faced Emperor and the Stormtrooper design is unique to this set. This building set recreates the scene in which the Emperor personally comes to oversee the construction of the Death Star II. You can build the Lamba-Class Shuttle that the Emperor arrives in and, to represent Death Star landing bay, there is a crane and cart.

Item #: 7256
Affiliation: Episode III
Ages: 7+
Pieces: 202
Minifigures:

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Pilot)
  2. R2-D2 (Head)

One of the draws to the Star Wars movies are the epic space battles; for the original Star Wars Trilogy LEGO sets they had the Y-Wing and Advanced TIE Fighter combo pack, the Star Wars Prequel LEGO sets have the Jedi Starfighter and Vulture Droid combo. After all, it takes two to dogfight. Despite their different designs, the Vulture Droid’s wings open the same as the Droid Fighter 7111 that was created for the Episode I LEGO sets. The inclusion of the R2-D2 minifigure is a bit of a stretch, since it is only his head. Of course if a full minifigure was put in, the lower half would be sticking out under the wing.

Ages: 7+

Minifigures:

  1. TIE Pilot
  2. Darth Vader

No vehicle was deployed more by the Empire than the TIE Fighter. These fast maneuverable starfighters were produced in mass numbers. They couldn’t sustain much damage, but their power was through being sent out in overwhelming numbers. With a clear glass cockpit that opens and closes, a minifigure fits easily inside to pilot this ship. Darth Vader never flew a standard TIE Fighter, but if anybody can survive a solo mission in one of these flying death traps, it would be him.

Ages: 7+

Minifigures:

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Light-Up Lightsaber)
  2. Anakin Skywalker (Light-Up Lightsaber)

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith would conclude the prequel trilogy and complete the story arc of Anakin Skywalker’s descent to the dark side. This building set recreates the climactic lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former apprentice/friend Anakin Skywalker over the lava surface of Mustafar. This set included the only Obi-Wan and Anakin minifigures with light-up lightsabers. Since these lightsabers can’t be removed, you will be limited on the kind of injuries they can suffer.

Item #: 7283

Ages: 8-12

Minifigures:

  1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
  2. Anakin Skywalker (Headset)
  3. Buzz Droid (2)
  4. R2-D2 (Head)
  5. R4-P17 (Head)

This LEGO Building Set recreates the opening space battle sequence, when audiences were thrown into the middle of an intense military engagement as Obi-Wan and Anakin attempt to rescue Chancellor Palpatine. Ultimate was the correct descriptive word to use for this set’s name. This one box contained enough models to recreate your own starfighter melee. The Confederacy had two Vulture Droids and a Droid Tri-Fighter, while the Republic had Obi-Wan and Anakin’s Jedi Starfighters. It might be tempting to rip open the box and start your own space battle, but collectors might have second thoughts. This set contains the only red Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter based on Episode III and it was a Target exclusive. Can you resist the Dark Side and leave this box sealed?

Ages: 8+

Minifigures:

  1. Wookiee Warrior (2)
  2. Battle Droid (2)

After decades of fans knowing and reading about Chewbacca’s homeworld of Kashyyyk, we finally got to see it in Episode III (I am excluding The Star Wars Holiday Special because of its low quality and being openly detested by George Lucas.) The Wookiee Attack Building Set recreates the Battle of Kashyyyk, where the Wookies battle a droid army. The Wookiees are fierce warriors and although outnumbered they mount an impressive defense. The set lets you build a Wookiee Raddaugh Gnasp Fluttercraft, Corporate Alliance Tank Droid and Dwarf Spider Droid.

Minifigures:

  1. Chewbacca
  2. Wookiee Warrior
  3. Yoda
  4. Luminara Unduli
  5. Siege Battalion Trooper (2)

Although this set’s main focus is on the Catamaran, there would still be many pieces added to help you recreate the Battle of Kashyyyk. The Catamaran is a very interactive model with a firing missile launcher, a bomb dropping device, movable cannons and a rotating engine. To augment the Wookiee defense, this set also comes with a Swamp Speeder. The Siege Battalion Troopers are exclusive to this set and, despite what the LEGO catalogue says, Luminara Unduli is a woman.

This Product Collectors set included the ARC-170 Starfighter (7259) and Droid Tri Fighter (7252). Rather than just repackaging two sets, it also came with a LEGO Star Wars Episode III poster and a CD-Rom with the short film LEGO Star Wars: Revenge of the Brick. The mini Arc Fighter (6967) and mini Jedi Fighter (6966) were randomly packaged inside some boxes.

Mini Building Sets

These models lack the detail of their larger counterparts, but they still look great and are much more mobile. This year’s Mini Building Sets were used a lot for promotional purposes, to help advertise both the LEGO Star Wars sets and the new movie being released.

The ARC-170 Fighter was a workhorse for the clone army and would be included in many building sets this year. The ARC Mini Building Set was used heavily in promotions. Although this Mini Building Set was intended to be released this year, it never made it to store shelves. However, the instructions to build the model could be found on the LEGO website. While regular Wookiee Attack building set included the Wookiee Raddaugh Gnasp Fluttercraft, Corporate Alliance Tank Droid and Dwarf Spider Droid, the mini Wookiee Attack building set only created the Tank Droid.

Ultimate Collector Series

These larger building sets come with more pieces than a standard kit. This allows for amazing details to be put into the models. The UCS are great for vehicles, bases and other Star Wars Universe creations that are supposed to be enormous in size.

Minifigures: None

If you are going to use an UCS to build anything, it should be a Death Star. When a space station is the size of a moon, then it better dwarf all the other standard building sets. With 3,449 pieces, this would be the largest Star Wars LEGO model to date. To help give it scale, a miniature model of Darth Vader’s Flagship, the Super Star Destroyer, Executor was included to fly around the Death Star II. The set was discontinued by 2007, when a larger and more interactive Death Star was released in 2008.

  4. C-3PO
  5. R5-D4
  6. R1-G4
  7. ASP Droid
  8. Gonk Droid
  9. Treadwell Droid

The Jawa’s used these huge Sandcrawlers to travel the deserts of Tatooine and scavenge for junk, that could be sold for a profit. While most UCS are built to be displayed and not played with, the Sandcrawler was an interactive building set that could be used right alongside your other LEGO Star Wars models. Technic axles and gears allowed the wheels to be moved along the ground as it is pushed and Technic pins made it possible to open and close the outside door. There was also a working crane to raise and lower droids in and out of the vehicle. With 7 droid minifigures this set goes along way in filling up your LEGO Star Wars Universe with plenty of droid. The Jawas and Owen Lars minifigures are were released for the first time in this set.

Promotional

These sets are produced in limited quantities and are typically not available in stores for purchase. They are given away at events or with the purchase of another item. These make them hard to find and highly collectible.
