20 Years of Football Fun

I started playing Madden football when in came out on The Sega Genesis in 1990. This game was named for the Pro Football Hall of Fame player John Madden. Madden's voice is recorded on the game and he does the play by play, play calling. Each year, the game has added new moves and features. On Madden 1992 when a player gets hurt, an ambulance actually drives onto the field to carry him away. Originally, the ball carrier could only high-step or dive. But not, the player is also able to stiff-arm, juke and pass the ball to another player. On the original Madden game, the defensive player could only jump or dive. But now, players can strip the ball to return for touchdowns. The game began in 1988 but by 1992 they introduced commentary on the game which was amazing for the time. Of course the game has evolved to not only have real time commentary but also real time scores courtesy of online play via the internet. Madden started on a two button controller then quickly evolved to a three button controller. Now in 2012 Madden is played on multiple consoles with ten button controllers. When the game first came out from EA Sports you could play to the Super Bowl but now you can play a total Dynasty for seasons on end. Also, the game has evolved from humble beginnings to a realistic football game complete with an NFL Draft, retirements and even salary caps and free agency. This is the most true to life of all sports games especially because of the realisticlay books.

Madden had competition from 1993-1995 with Joe Montana's Sports talk football but after that EA Sports simply took over the NFL Football market in the video gaming industry. All the moves and statistics have helped this franchise become more and more realistic. Each year many additions such as player movement and play calling adjust enough to keep the game interesting.

If you need proof that this game is popular, it has withstood the test of time. It is still popular after 20 years.

* Please tell me the first Madden game you ever played by leaving comments in the box located at the bottom of the page. I remember having the first Madden game entitled, " John Madden Football". I thought it was pretty cool when the paramedics would drive onto the field and cart off injured players. The best part of the Madden games is that they add new features each and every year.

UpClose Action

Madden Football has lots of in your face actions. Each year madden has new moves added such as: Sprint, stiff arm, high step and audibles. It uses facial features and real life player movements during the video game.

The first Madden game I ever remember playing was Madden 1994. I found it to amazing how the in-game camera would rotate during interceptions. And they even got Madden voice samples in the game. E..A.. Sports... It's in the game!
