I have been playing Magic: The Gathering since 1994 and have won a few draft tournaments in MTGO and MTG Arena.

Time Walk

Time Walk is a blue sorcery costing one colorless mana and one blue mana.

Take an extra turn after this one.

You get the full benefits of an additional turn after the turn you casted Time Walk in. No ifs and no buts.

You get an addional untap phase, an addtional upkeep phase, an additional draw phase, an additional attack phase and an additional land drop.

Savor the Moment

Savor the Moment is a blue sorcery costing one colorless mana and two blue mana.

Take an extra turn after this one. Skip the untap step of that turn.

Skipping the untap step of your next turn severely limits what you can do.

Sure, you still get to draw a card, drop a land, use untapped lands from your previous turn to casts spells and attack with untapped creatures you had from your previous turn but there is not much else you can do.

Timetwister

Timetwister is a blue sorcery costing two colorless mana and one blue mana.

Each player shuffles their hand and graveyard into their library, then draws seven cards. (Then put Timetwister into its owner’s graveyard.)

Timetwister is a great counter against mill decks as it refills you your library.

It is also great for recovering against the effects of discard decks as Timetwister refills your hand.

Diminishing Returns

Diminishing Returns is a blue sorcery costing two colorless mana and two blue mana.

Each player shuffles their hand and graveyard into their library, then draws seven cards. (Then put Diminishing Returns into its owner’s graveyard.)

Diminishing Returns may refill your library and hand in a similar way as Timetwister but it costs two more mana and also costs you ten exiled cards.

This reset places you at a ten card disadvantage versus your opponent.

Ancestral Recall

Ancestral Recall is a blue instant that costs one blue mana.

Target player draws three cards.

The most number of cards you can get out of one mana without any drawback is one card. This is a far cry from Ancestral Recall which lets you draw three cards without any penalties or conditions.

Brainstorm

Brainstorm is a blue instant that costs one blue mana.

Draw three cards, then put two cards from your hand on top of your library in any order.

Initially, Brainstorm seems to be a carbon copy of Ancestral Recall as you get to draw three cards. However, as you read further, you have to return two of them back on top of your library in any order.

This ends up with a net card draw of zero as you essentially just cycled out Brainstorm for another card and the ability to fix your next two draws.

Mox Jet

Mox Jet is an artifact that has a zero casting cost.

Tap Mox Jet to add one black mana to your mana pool.

Moxes are an excellent way to quickly build up your mana base.

Moxes are so potent that they can easily lead to first or second turn victories by pulling out deadly combinations.

Charcoal Diamond

Charcoal Diamond is an artifact that costs two colorless mana.

Charcoal Diamond comes into play tapped.

Tap Charcoal Diamond to add one black mana to your mana pool.

Diamonds are an excellent way to quickly build up your mana base.

They are much slower than the moxes though, as they not only cost two more mana but also come into play tapped.

Black Lotus

Black Lotus is an artifact that has a zero casting cost.

Tap Black Lotus and sacrifice it to add three mana of any one color to your mana pool.

Black Lotuses and moxes are used to power first turn wins in Vintage.

The Black Lotus is the most iconic card in the game.

Lion's Eye Diamond

Lion's Eye Diamond is an artifact that has a zero casting cost.

Sacrifice Lion's Eye Diamond and discard your hand to add three mana of any one color to your mana pool.

Lion's Eye Diamond was initially a useless card when it was printed in Mirage, However, people were able to harness its power through different combos to get around its discard effect.
