TV Setup

If you want to start the remote programming process yourself, and you know what you are doing already, then just initiate the process and do it.

To get to programming mode, you push and hold the power button.

If the TV is off, hold mute...

DVD Setup (or any other device)

1. press the device button (DVD, TV, ETC.)
2. press the set button till it blinks

3. enter the code

The great thing about the Magnavox Univeral Remote is that it lets you combine TV and DVD functions on a single remote. You can also set up your audio system and PC functions on the remote. And, unlike other universal remotes, you only have to program the Magnavox once. None of this resetting your codes every time there is a thunderstorm.

Philips patented the universal remote control in 1985 under the Magnavox brand. But they didn't become programmable until Steve Wozniak, founder of the Apple II, made a programmable version in 1987.

Some universal remotes allow the code lists programmed into the remote to be updated by the user. You just punch in the updated code. Some newer models can be plugged into a computer USB port. The really neat ones have touch screens, oh yes.

This forum is devoted to your universal remote. It is kind of simple, but there are some common problems written up here.

 Whenever you go to somebody else's house, be sure to take your universal remote and be sure to memorize your Magnivox remote codes (or at least have them printed off). Now, you can make your friend think their tv is acting up and they will get embarrassed if you fiddle with the volume or maybe change the channel during American Idol Results or anything else. You will feel like God and it is loads of fun to do to your older friends.

There is no day so tragic as the day when your remote dies. Yes, you can get a universal remote. Yes, you can find magnavox remote codes on this very page. But so what?
