Mandala Coloring Pages App-A Review With Screenshots

Updated on November 4, 2017

Kari enjoys playing relaxing game apps. Coloring is one of her favorites.

Coloring For Stress Relief

Ever since I was a small child I have loved to color. My own children had several coloring books and many packs of crayons. Of course I had to color with them. I love the ability to color life the way I like. I do not go in for dull or drab. The brighter the better for me. I love to play with colors and contrasts.

A few years ago I started hearing that coloring is good for anxiety. I have a couple of anxiety diagnosis at the moment so I decided to try it. I started coloring and found it worked for me. I get so involved with planning the colors that I do not think of the stuff that stresses me out. I also find it extremely satisfying to create beautiful pictures.

Coloring brings me to a state of mindfulness that few other activities can achieve. While I am coloring my whole world is about creating a beautiful picture. I become immersed in colors, shades, and hues. Immersed in contrast and harmony. The stressors in my life no longer float in my mind. The here and now become colors and pictures, and creating loveliness.

Mandala Coloring App

The Mandala Coloring Pages app is my favorite of all the coloring apps. The picture above is the page on Google Play for downloading it. There are several apps that will come up if you search for this one. I included this picture so you can ensure that you download the correct one.

When you search Google Play for "top rated coloring app", Mandala appears 4th. It has an overall rating of 4.4 out of 250,000+ reviews on Google Play. Mandala Coloring Pages has been downloaded ten million times. I guess I'm not the only one who likes it. This app is also available for iOS.

Features of Mandala Coloring Pages

The screenshot above is the page that will open when you go into Mandala. It shows you the features: coloring book, blank, magic, gallery and design. (This is a lot of features for a free app.

Feature: Coloring Book

In the coloring book feature you will find 100+ pictures of all types.
In the coloring book feature you will find 100+ pictures of all types.

Feature: Coloring Book

The coloring book feature is just that. You open it and it will show you the pictures you can color. There are over 100 pictures that are all free. The developers of this app add new pages often. Some are fairly simple and some are very complex. This is nice for me because some days I need greater concentration than others. The types of pictures are nicely varied. There are florals, animals, mandalas, and designs. Everyone should be able to find one they like.

Feature: Blank Pages

You can color your own design.
You can color your own design.

Feature: Blank Page

When you open the "blank" feature, you get just that. A blank page that you can draw your own design on. You can draw with a solid line, or you can use the stars, circles, hearts or banner. I used the smallest stars to make the picture above.

Feature: Magic

In "magic" the designs appear when you tap the page with color.
In "magic" the designs appear when you tap the page with color.

Feature: Magic

Tap into the "magic" page and the page will be blank. A design begins to appear when you tap on the page with a color selected. You can go back and change the colors if you like afterwards.

Feature: Gallery

Feature: Gallery

Gallery is where all the pictures you have begun or completed are stored. Saving and sharing are very simple. You can open pictures to complete or edit from here.

Feature: Design

In the design feature you can make your own designs. The designs you make will save to the coloring book feature to make them available to color. These designs will stay in your coloring book in case you would like to color them more than once.

Colors

You can see in the picture above how to choose colors. You tap on the color wheel and the lower color bar appears. Once you choose a color and tap on it, the upper bar appears showing all the hues of that color. As you can see above, I tapped on the bright yellow.

Colors Used

Colors you use line up at the bottom of the page.

Colors Used

Before you tap on the color wheel, you will see the crayons. You can also search through the crayons to find the colors you want. I find it quicker and easier to use the color wheel.

As you use colors they will start lining up in this screen. This makes it very simple to find the exact shade if you want to use it again. You can see in the picture above I have used green, lime green, pink, sky blue and yellow.

Enlarging the Picture

Enlarging the Picture

You can enlarge the picture to make sure you get in all those little places. Enlarging the picture makes it easier to color. I will enlarge, then make it normal and pick my next color and then enlarge again. This saves my eyes also.

Coloring Page Features

There are a couple of features on the coloring page that I will go over. The features are: home, save, puzzle, trash, go back, happy face, fill and paint. If you select the puzzle feature, the game will ask if you would like to download their puzzle app and make your picture into a puzzle on it.

Coloring Feature: Happy Face

After you select an image by tapping it, you can place it on your picture.
After you select an image by tapping it, you can place it on your picture.

Coloring Feature: Happy Face

If you tap on the "happy face" you will see many images you can use in your pictures. I have included about 2/3rds of them in the picture below. When you select an image you can paste it onto your picture. You can select one and place it many times. Alternatively, you can select several.

Coloring Feature: Happy Face

Tap on the "happy face" to get an assortment of images to use in your pictures. There are about 6 more rows of images not included in this picture.

Subscription Info

Everything in the "Mandala Coloring Pages" is free. All the pictures, all the colors, all the features are all free. You can subscribe to a "No Ad" version for $2.49. I do not find the ads overwhelming in this app. The usual time to get an ad is when you change features or go back home. I cannot remember ever having an ad pop up while I was coloring.

Oh, you poor soul! My children colored, I do not know if the loved it or just did it to be with me, lol. I would always color with them. Now I wonder if it wasn't them coloring with me. It's time to take your coloring days back. :)

I loved coloring as a child too. I have seen the adult coloring books, but never bought them. Thanks for calling the app to my attention. Now I will get my son's old crayons, colored pencils, and marker out of the closet and start coloring. I was so disappointed that my one child, a boy, never took to coloring. Maybe it is a girl thing.

Bill, I have the same problem with not being notified at times. I saw one of the coloring books you made in the Mailbag last week (I think last week). I use this and a few other coloring apps, but I think I should get an actual coloring book. I do sketch and color with oil crayons. Thanks for reading and commenting. :)

I'm beginning to think that I don't get notification of your hubs. This is the second one in a row I missed, and I'm usually pretty good about it. Well, anyway, I love that coloring is making a comeback. I even jumped on the wagon and published three coloring books. :)

Thanks Linda. I have always loved coloring. Now my kids are grown and I have to admit that it's not just to spend time with the kids, lol. I find it so relaxing! :)

This app looks interesting, Kari. I use to enjoy coloring very much when I was a child. I've read so much about the benefits of coloring for adults that I'm going to try it soon. Thanks for sharing the information.

Rachel, I do have to use my reading glasses for this app, but you can enlarge it to the size you need. LOL, I think I missed mentioning that. Coloring in the kid books is just as fun, I think. And they do reduce eye strain. Thanks for reading and commenting. Blessing to you, also! :)

FlourishAnyway, That was a wonderful use of your coupon. Why should we give up coloring just because we are adults? We do a better job now, lol. Thanks for reading and commenting. :)

Jackie, I would definitely recommend getting your own coloring book. I have oil crayons to use at home. (Not for children, lol) I love the brilliance of the colors. Thanks for reading and commenting. :)

Hi Kari, I used to and still do love coloring. I used to color in my daughter's coloring books as much as they did. Now I love to color with my granddaughter. Now my eyes get blurry too fast for the beautiful designs of the adult coloring books or else I would be buying one.

      Blessings to you.

I'm going to pass this article on to my daughter, Kari. She loves to doodle and make her own designs. I think she'd love this. Great article.

I had a $25 coupon and nothing to spend it on at the office supply store so I got a coloring book and some nice pens. My nephews can color their stuff and I can work on mine. They usually finish way before I do and move on to other pictures.

You know I have thought of buying my own coloring book. Every kid I color with has rules and it usually if not always means I do not get to color the way I want to or even finish the picture.

      Fun hub.
