Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer 4 Player Co-op: Galaxy at War

Updated on February 18, 2012

For the first time ever in the Mass Effect video game franchise, Mass Effect 3 will feature 4 player cooperative. Players can team up together to tackle the galaxies greatest threat, the "reapers." Succeeding in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer will have a direct impact on the single player campaign. Note, however, the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer cooperative is only optional. It merely compliments the single player and is not needed to get the best ending in Mass Effect 3.

Some players may be concerned that the single player campaign may be of "less quality" because of multiplayer being added to the mix. Never fear, though, as Bioware has two separate teams working on Mass Effect 3. One team will be focused on the single player and the other team will be focused on the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer cooperative.

Mass Effect 3 Galaxy At War

The Galaxy at War system in Mass Effect 3 will allow players to experience the game from multiple fronts. There is something called "Galaxy Readiness level" in Mass Effect 3. This basically determines how well Commander Shepard can utilize vital assets to win the war against the Reapers such as people, entire fleets, resources, weapons, etc.

Playing Mass Effect 3's multiplayer co-op successfully can help increase Commander Shepard's Galaxy Readiness level. This is one alternative to help your success in single player, but you can still complete Mass Effect 3 and receive the best ending without playing online.

No versus mode in Mass Effect 3?

Bioware has not implemented any versus mode to Mass Effect 3. The team is entirely focused on the story, characters, dialogue, combat, and the players custom experience. There may be be dlc in the future, but it will likely not be versus mode.

(Mass Effect 3 will be the final game for Commander Shepard)

Mass Effect 3 - (4-player Cooperative)

While players will not be able to play as Commander Shepard, Liara, Garrus, or other known Mass Effect characters, they will be able to play as their own custom character. The player can create their own custom race as an Asari, Turian, Salarian, and more! Each race and class will have their own special abilities (3 powers for each class).

The player can also level up in the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and will be able to upgrade different types of weapons. Imagine, being able to play as different races! You may have interacted with the other races in the Mass Effect universe, but now, you actually get to control them!

Players also will have the option of customizing their armor with different colors. And credits earned can be used in the store to unlock new upgrades, characters, and more.

Mass Effect Imported Saves?

You will be able to import your saved files from Mass Effect 2, however, this will only affect the single-player experience, not the multiplayer! Do not worry if you have not played previous Mass Effect games and are afraid that you will not be able to experience the cooperative experience to the fullest.

Just remember that importing Mass Effect saves creates your own custom experience based on choices you made in previous Mass Effect games. It's recommended that you play them if you have not, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Was it a good idea that BioWare added Cooperative to Mass Effect 3?
