Monday Funday - Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2 was one of the last games on the Sega Dreamcast and the sequel to Sonic Adventure. This game centers around the battle of good and evil, with Sonic working to stop Dr. Eggman from taking over the world once again. This time, Sonic's friends Miles "Tails" Prower, a yellow two-tailed fox mechanic, and Knuckles the Echidna, a red dreadlocked treasure hunter and guardian, join him in the fight. Eggman has help of his own as well: Shadow the Hedgehog, a black hedgehog created by Eggman's grandfather, and Rouge, a seductive bat who has a love for jewels, make their debut to the series.
Sonic and Shadow, Tails and Eggman, and Knuckles and Rouge have their own stage types. The two hedgehogs concentrate on pure speed toward the goal. The mechanic and the Doctor go through their stages in a mechanical walker, shooting robots and obstacles to get to the stage's end. The treasure hunters work to gather pieces of the Master Emerald (which Knuckles was born to protect, but shattered it on purpose to keep Eggman from taking it). There is a "Hero" and a "Dark" story to play for both teams. You can complete in your own order, and once they are complete, a final story is unlocked in which the characters work together to ultimately safe the earth.
The game has a battle mode, in which you can race, battle, or hunt against a friend and track your victories. In addition to the main characters, Battle Mode includes the characters Amy Rose, Chao Walker, and Tikal for the Hero Side, and Metal Sonic, Dark Chao Walker, and Chaos for the Dark Side. Each character has their own special abilities to use in the matches, depending on how many rings you collect. You can only find this on Sonic Adventure 2: Battle which was released on the Nintendo Gamecube or you can download on the Xbox Marketplace for 240 Microsoft Points.
Personally, my favorite things about this game are the soundtrack and the Chao Garden. The music fits every character, stage, and cutscene perfectly. Sonic's first stage "City Escape" has a song appropriately titled "Escape From the City," and it is very catchy. The chao are little, adorable creatures that you can raise in their own world, known as a garden. If you played the first Adventure, the garden is very similar. You can raise these Chao, enter them in races, or have them fight in karate tournaments.
If you want to check this game out, you can find a free demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace or you can buy the full game for 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00 US).
