My thoughts on Sonic Boom Designs "Amy"

Updated on March 27, 2015

Whats up Sonic Fans

As you know by now, Sega is releasing Sonic Boom into game and cartoon and with the new series Sonic and all of his friends are getting new designs. I have covered everyone but Amy Rose Sonic's self proclaimed girlfriend. Unlike the others Amy's first appearance was in a Sonic the Hedgehog manga series by Kenji Terada in 1992 making her has old as Tails even though her first game appearance was Sonic CD in 1993. Amy has since become one of the most reoccurring characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series even if all she is is some sort of background character, so iy is no surprise at all that she would be in Sonic Boom. Speaking of, That brings a very good point.

What is Sonic Boom?

Sonic Boom is an upcoming game coming out for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. It is meant to be a sub franchise to the main Sonic the Hedgehog games not a reboot but a whole new thing altogether. For the game the characters have been given new designs and in some cases whole new abilities. There are at least five playable characters, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and a new character Sticks the Jungle Badger (Only on the 3DS). With the newbie being the exception, they have all been given a new look for the game as a means of trying reconnect with children today and in a since reintroduce the world to Sonic the Hedgehog without completely throwing out the old method and design in which some of us have in fact grown to love.

Not Together?

If I did them all at once we would be here for a very long time, and I know we all have things we would like to do. So instead, I am going to do them one at a time. I have done most of them already counting Amy I have only two left so lets get started.

Amy Rose (Classic)

When Amy Rose first appeared in 1992 in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga she looked nothing like she does today and that didn't change when they moved her to video games in 1993. First of all this depicts a much younger Amy being around 8 or so and in fact she wears green of all things and doesn't wear her spikes down but keep them out like Sonic. This design is so different from what we would later see in Sonic adventure that you could go as far as saying that this is not Amy Rose but Rosy the rascal. The main reason for the change was to give Sonic a kinda girlfriend even if he doesn't really want one. I like the design but I prefer the older one.

Amy Rose (Sonic Riders)

Like many of the cast Amy was given a new design in the Sonic Riders series giving her, her very first pants appearance. Am I the only one who sees the similarity between this design and the one they would use in the new Sonic Boom? there are of course several differences but there are also several similarities between the two layouts. It is not a bad look for something that is meant to be a little more sporty but then I picture her less sporty and more of the kinda girl who would spend her time with her friends at the mall buying shoes or or perhaps just watching Sonic on the sidelines.

Amy Rose (Modern)

When they made Sonic Adventure, everyone got a small change maybe a little taller, some color in there eyes or maybe brighter or darker colors. Amy had the biggest makeover in Sonic Adventure, jumping from an eight year old wearing a green shirt and red dress to a sixteen year old wearing a red dress with red and white shoes gold bracelets, white gloves and a red hair band to hold her spikes down. In Sonic Adventure, Amy was kinda slow but very strong with a hammer, since then she is still very strong with the hammer but now she has become one of the speed types from chasing Sonic all these years. In other words, Amy has since become the female equivalent to Sonic. It is hard to dislike Amy for to long has she is very courage's in her own way and has maximum faith in Sonic and in herself.

May Rose (Sonic Boom)

In Sonic Boom, Amy is still wearing a dress but now it is tighter to her form and she has a white sash around her waist and she wears white gloves with a pink underline, gold bracelets, pink shoes, pink thigh high socks and still a red hairband. Not really a change in design, but I understand she is now more athletic then before which would explain the tighter outfit. Also Amy's Piko hammer ha s been altered a little, now where it was red is now pink. I am not sure iff putting pink on an already pink character is such a bright idea but it seems to be darker then her fur color so maybe it will work fine.

My Rating

3 stars for Sonic Boom Design "Amy"

The Verdict

I know what I hate, and I don't hate this, I can't say I would have done any of the same things but I don't hate this. However that being said, I will aways think of Amy in her red dress and not this thing that makes you wonder just wear her tail is.

What do you think?

Do you like the new look?

Final Thoughts

I hope we have all been enjoying my Sonic Boom Design articles because there is only one left now and her name is Sticks, so if you all have been reading them thus fare, great I love you for it, and if not then you should check the rest of the cast and tell me what you think of them. For now though I am coming for you Sticks!
